U-9 soccer season ends with match against Elma
The Brussels I U-9 soccer squad
ended their regular season with a
match against Elma I, July 30.
The low scoring game was domi-
nated by Ty Sebastian and Randy
Zwep as they accounted for the only
two goals of the game.
Sebastian scored early after Zwep
worked the ball into position on the
left side to beat the netminder.
Andrew Lindsay and Christopher
Becker were strong on defense, with
Lindsay stopping the attackers at
centre and Becker pushing off the
opponents when they got to close to
the net. Christine Bone showed good
hustle in chasing down the ball.
The team played their first play-
off game in Brussels against
Howick, Aug. 6. Having placed fifth
in a division of 22 teams, Howick
was a tough opponent, scoring three
quick goal early. Cam Schlosser was
solid in net, preventing many more
scores by Howick.
Bowers tried to pull Brussels to
within two, but his shot trickled
wide. Lindsay broke the shutout
before the end of the first half, scor-
ing from the far right side.
Vicki Blake displayed her strong
kicking skills.and Sebastian hustled
to stay in the action.
Sebastian moved between the
posts for the second half and was
beat when a Howick player scored

The potluck supper held in the

The evenly-matched teams both

The lone goal of the first half came
from Bowers.
Drayton evened the tally in the
second half, beating netminder
Zwep after he had stopped several
shots in close.
Nice passing from Sebastian to
Bowers pulled Brussels back into the
