FROM BLYTH
North Huron briefs
The North Huron Wescast
Community Complex was the sub-
ject of discussion at Twp. of North
Huron's meeting on July 24.
The final milestone report was dis-
cussed and when North Huron, the
Municipality of Morris/Turnberry
and the Knights of Columbus have
signed it the Ministry will release the
last 10 per cent of their funding.
The committee recommended to
council that they sign a five-year
service agreement with Cimco
Refrigeration to maintain the refrig-
eration plant at the community com-
plex and to install the ice tempera-
ture controller system. Further it was
recommended that Delta Elevator be.
retained to service the elevators at
the complex and town hall.
Bill McGrath, George Henhoeffer
and Dennis McGwynn representing
the Knights of Columbus discussed
the pledge towards the Wescast
Complex. McGrath stated that
although they had originally allotted
10 years over which to complete
their pledge of $550,000, they hope
to have it paid off in five. They did
not wish to lock themselves into a
five-year schedule due to the uncer-
tainty of their fundraising.
He said the Knights had con-
tributed $10,000 towards their
pledge plus had already spent over
$100,000 to outfit the kitchen with a
fridge, stove, freezer, dishwasher,
dishes and cutlery, as well as tables
and chairs for the lounge.
He said the next installment would
be coming in April of 2002. Also
when the Knights sell some property
they own, a substantial payment
Would be made.
Clerk-Administrator John Stewart
said other pledges had been made
over a five-year period. Councillor
Jeff Howson said he did not believe
that the municipality should assume
the- responsibility of carrying the
long-term debt for the Knights' con-
tribution.
* **
Stewart asked for a twp. credit
card because at present he has to use
his own for twp. business. This will
be considered by council.
***
It was recommended that the direc-
tor of recreation and facilities be
given permission to sign agreements
not to exceed five years or $5,000
per year after council has approved
the signing by motion. Contracts and
agreements .exceeding this must be
signed by the reeve and/or clerk
administrator.
* * *
It was recommended that addition-
al funds be placed in the 2002 parks
operating and capital budgets for
development and maintenance of
Galbraith Park for soccer.
***
Jane Lane, the manager of Child
Care Services stated that a landscape
design had been approved by the
Ministry for Wingham Day Care.
Stewart said that because there was
only $9,000 to spend, the playground
equipment would have to wait for
next year. .
