Mmm, toast
Tyler VanderMeer clearly enjoyed the good cooking at the
Brussels Legion Breakfast, Sunday, July 15. The meal was
so well attended, supplies this time ran a little short. (Mark

Rack of pork
You could dine all day long in Brussels this past weekend with breakfast at the Legion and the
annual St. John's Anglican pork chop supper that night. Jim Cooper and Jack McCutcheon get
the meat onto the grill for the many hungry diners who came out to support the church. (Mark

We welcome into the community
the future Motocross champion of
Walton... No, no, no, of Ontario.:".
No, no, no of the world. Baby Caden
Lee was born June 30 to Brett and
Tracy. Uncle Matt has already pur-
chased Caden Mike LaRacco
motocross gear, which he will
proudly wear at the Transcan races
in August where Brett will enter the
+25. If Brett wins he will be holding
up Caden in one hand and the trophy
in the other. Congratulations.
I am pleased to announce that
there is another happy grandmother
walking around town, Jeanne
Kirkby. Her son Paul and his wife
Van are proud parents of Melanie
Doan who was born July 12, weigh-
ing in at 9 lbs. 4 1/2 oz. Brother to
Melanie is Sean and he has been
spending time with grandmother this
past week.
Congratulations folks.
If you happened to be going
through Walton on Friday you will
have noticed vehicles parked along
both sides of the road for the cele-
bration of McGavin's 65 years in
business. What a crowd! At lunch
they fed 500 people and ran.out of
buns and had to run and get more. In
the evening a meal prepared by the
Walton Hall board was served at the
home of Neil and Marie.
With the tent being at their home
for the weekend Neil and Marie
offered to hold the Duff's United
Church service there. It was a per-
fect morning Sunday, July 15 for the
crowd that came to worship.
After parking the van I could hear
the violin, played by Phyllis
Mitchell, and the keyboard with
Marion Godkin, playing some
favourite oldies.
Olene and Murray Dennis were
greeters an welcomed everyone.
Joan Tuchlinsky began the service
with a warm welcome to everyone

and a thank you to the McGavins
and all those who helped make the
service possible. Everyone enjoyed
singing the hymns throughout the
service and listening to the message.
The sermon was based on the story
of the Good Samaritan. What was
interesting to note in the story was
that the priest and the Levite accord-
ing to the Jewish Law actually did
the right thing by not stopping and
helping the man. By the law they
were not to be unclean.
But what Jesus was saying was
that we must be merciful, and not
worry about being right.
