Grey grad reflects on interestin year with Mr. C
By Brett Hunt
Hello. I am Brett Hunt, this year's
valedictorian. Let me first of all say
,what an honour it
is to have been
voted this espe-
cially seeing how.
it was my peers
who made the
decision. ,
This year was
definitely an
interesting one.
How is it ever
NOT interesting when you have a
split Grade 7/8 class with Mr. C as
your teacher? We were lucky this
year though because as Mr. C point-
ed out to us, we ONLY made it to
lecture #25 or so.
This year could have also been
termed a pretty successful one, with
Joel Hubbert cleaning up at our
school track meet then going on
from the regional meet to the
District meet where he got a first in
the 400-m race. Travis Ziegler, a
Grade 7 won a second in the 100-m
dash at that same meet.
And who could ever forget the
success Yvonne DeWit, Laura
Armstrong and I had at the Gauss
math contest, with myself placing
first and Laura in third in our respec-
tive Grade 8 group. Also Yvonne
placed first amongst the Grade 7s
over all.
We also had success as an entire
class, when on farm safety day, we
Grade 7s and 8s had to take care of
all the "youngens" for the day. This
was, no easy task but as far as I know
everything went smoothly.
Now I would like to thank all the
teachers that my fellow classmates
and I have had over the years, at
Grey, for the great job they have
done preparing us for high school.
I would like to thank Mrs. Douma
our kindergarten teacher, who I
thought was the kindest teacher I
ever had; then Mrs. Richmond in
Grade 1 and Miss Doig in Grade 2. I
can assure you both those teacher
loved me, wink, wink.
There was also Mr. Park for both
Grade 3 and Grade 4 and Mrs.
Starkey who also taught some of us
in Grade 3. This was followed by
Mrs. Martin and Mrs. Elg,ie for

meant as much to my fellow gradu-
ates as they have to me.
I know I have many goals for my
life ahead andl am sure all of you do
too! Here are a couple of quotations
to help you on your way through
life: "To reach your goals in life
Grade 5.
Next Mr. Mason in Grade 6, who
never hesitated to call us a bunch of
turkeys as we interrupted him while
he talked .about the last big one he
caught fishing. For Grade 7 we had
Mr. C and Mrs. Hemingway then in
Grade 8 the teachers were Mr. C and
you've got to bridge the 12 gaps
between your head, your heart, and
your gut". •
— Grant M. Bright
And: "You miss 100 per cent of the
shots you never take."
Wayne Gretzky
My own personal favourite of the
Mrs. MacKay. Our French teachers
were Mr. C, Mrs. Owen and- Mrs.
Henry.
Now as my speech draws to an
end I would like to give a special
thanks to Mr. C who I feel did the
best at preparing my fellow class-
mates and I for "the big school in the
two is the one made by Wayne
Gretzky; I think he is saying if you
don't try you will never succeed at
anything you do.
As Doctor Suess once said: So be
your name: Josh, Kyle, Leanne,
Nicole, Nikki, Jacob, Lee, Bruce,
Ashley, Amy, Nicole, Kayla, Nicole,
sky" and for the rest of our lives. I
guess all of that jumping and hop-
ping around until his face turned red,
giving us sermons about this, and
teaching us that three squared is in
fact nine not six, really
worked.
Thank you.
Craig, Bridgct. N1,11 k Leisa and
Kevin.
We're off to great places!
Today is our day!
;Your mountain is waiting!
So...Get on your way!
Congratulations graduating clas
of 200 I '
