Gallery Stratford is presenting the
touring exhibition ABC's of Pop Art:
America, Britain, Canada — Major
Artists and Their Legacy at the
Gallery, located at 54 Romeo St. in
Stratford until Sept. 2. This exhibi-
tion looks at the influential 20th cen-

ence on well-known contemporary
artists.

Using references from everyday life,
consumer culture and media images,
pop art was one of the most accessi-
ble and popular movements in art in
America, Canada and Britain from
the late 1950s through the 1970s.
Household names like Andy
Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Jim Dine,
Robert Rauschenberg, Claes
Oldenburg and David Hockney are
presented alongside well-known
Canadian 'icons' like Greg Curnoe,
Michael Snow, Tony Urquhart, and
Joyce Weiland. This collection of fun
and funky artworks also brings with
it its legacy by including contempo-
rary artists of today who have been
heavily influenced by the original
Pop Art pioneers. A comprehensive
illustrated catalogue accompanies
the exhibition and will be available
for purchase at the gallery.
The exhibition will be open for
viewing during May only, Tuesday
through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
