Woman killed in Vanastra
Police are seeking the public's
help in finding out who was driving
the car that killed a 21-year-old
Exeter woman early Saturday
morning.
Jennifer Randall was walking with
a group of people on 7th Avenue in
Vanastra when she was struck by a
vehicle which had been travelling at
a high rate of speed, police said.
The incident occured near the
Lion's Apartment building. The car,
a red 1989 Ford Thunderbird was
carrying several people, all of whom
were questioned by police in an
attempt to determine who the driver
was. The car has been detained for
expert examination and possible
forensic testing.
Police said the people had been at
a buck and doe in Clinton's
Community Centre earlier in the
evening. The Ford was also seen at
Topp's Bar in Vanastra around 2:15
a.m. June 16, just before the
collision.
"We need any person whb saw the
vehicle leaving either of these
establishments to come forward and
say who the driver was at the time,"
said Sr. Const. Don Shropshall.

The Huron Federation of
Agriculture is praising the
government for a new law that sets
standards for farms and protects the
environment.
The Ontario government
introduced a new law which enforces
clear and consistent standards for
nutrient management on farms.
The new law incorporates many
practices farmers already use,
ensuring sustainable growth and
safeguarding the environment to
make rural Ontario attractive for
economic growth, Ontario Minister
of Agriculture, Food and Rural
Affairs Brian Coburn said.
"I am relieved to finally see
:zgiglatiGn fOT
farmers. It means it won't matter
which municipality you live in, we
will all be playing by the same
rules," said Huron Federation
President Charles Regele.

Under the proposed Nutrient
Management Act 2001, standards
will be developed for all land applied
materials containing nutrients
relating to agriculture including
manure, commercial fertilizer,
municipal biosolids and septage.
The proposed legislation would
bring in mandatory Nutrient
Management Plans, distance
requirements for spreading manure
and biosolids near wells and
waterways, banning septage being
spread on land and identifying the
different livestock operations.
The legislation also sets out to
make rules for the safe disposal of
dead stock, ensure land-applied
arE used in a
environmentally friendly way.
This legislation will increase the
public's confidence in agriculture
and rural development and give
farmer's confidence for the future,
$130.50; 900 lbs. and over, $109.50
to $132.
the _government. said.
The legislation would also
establish qualifications which would
include training for farmers on
applying nutrients to the land.
The Huron Federation made two
presentations in the consultation
process that went into the
development of the legislation.
Consultation over the law will
take place throughout the summer.
