MARJORIE ISABELLE
(REID) MCVICAR
The family of Marjorie Isabelle
(Reid) McVicar sadly announces her
passing on June 15, 2001 at Four
Counties General Hospital, Newbury.
She was 65.
Mabel's Moms met at their regular
time on Wednesday, June 13. Those
who attended were Crystal Agombar,
Nicholas, Gage and Curtis Weber;
Kim Higgins, Ashley, Shelby and
Jarod Logan; Lila Procter and
She will be sorely missed by her
devoted husband, Lawrence, of RR1.
Newbury, to whom she was a partner,
companion and best friend for more
than 44 years, and her six children,
Kathy and Peter Hofer of Appin, Neil
and Pauline McVicar of Timmins,
Janice and Ray Becker of RR2,
Blyth, David and JoAnn McVicar of
Dutton, Randy and Vanessa McVicar
of London and Gail McVicar and
partner Will Dawe of Cambridge.
Marjorie was the loving grandmother
of Louis and Janine Hofer, Jennifer
and Meghan McVicar, Christopher
Becker, Brian and Krista McVicar
and Nathaniel McVicar. She is sur-
-vived by brother-in-law Don
McVicar, sisters Melba Fish, Gladys
Pinsonneault, Grace Reid, brother
Dick and his wife, Shirley Reid, and
sister-in-law Mary Reid as well as
many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three
brothers, three brothers-in-law and
two sisters-in-law.
The accomplishments of Marjorie's
life need not be measured by worldly
awards, but -by the success of the
family she raised. It was not through
words, but by demonstration that her
six children grew to be loving, caring,
strong and independent individuals. It
is their success in life and with fami-
lies of their own by which Marjorie's
greatest gifts can be measured.
Through the early years of her mar-
riage, Marjorie was a stay-at- home
mom, getting used to the demands of
a farm wife and raising her family.
She could regularly be seen working
in the kitchen, cooking; baking or
putting up preserves while humming
to the country and western tunes
which invariably emanated from the
radio. Lending a hand with farm tasks
was also part of daily life.
Never one to shoo the children
away, except when they got just a lit-
tle too rambunctious for indoor play,
weekend chores and pitching in with
the kitchen work were part of a happy_
family life. However, it was the bal-
ance between support and discipline
Jessica; Linda Hess and Judith.
Their topic was Father's Day and
the Closing of School.
The next meeting will be June 20.
Eight tables of euchre were in play
at the Women's Institute Hall on
Wednesday, June 13.
Winners were: high lady, Kay
McCormick; second high lady,
Louise Bosman; most lone hands.
Helen Gallop; low lady, Ruth
Johnston; high man, Mary McIntosh;
second high man, Gordon Bosman;
most lone hands, Richad Moore; low
man, Harry McCombie.
This was the last euchre for the
season. Euchre will resume again on
Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. _
which made her a great mother. She
was always there for her children's
achievements, but would not let them
deviate far from what was right. Even
as they grew, she voiced her opinion
of their choices, but let them make
their own life decisions, allowing
them to learn.
She was the strength of her family
and the simple anticipation of an
impending punishment could stop the
youngsters from crossing the line, or
at least giving it a second or third
thought.
__Once her youngest child entered
school, she began to work outside the
home where her smile became known
to a wider community. She was also
involved in volunteering at Four
Counties General Hospital and had
been a force in raising money for the
Great Ride/Walk to fight'cancer. As a
part of her community, Marjorie was
often found organizing suppers, par-
ties and showers for those at No. 12
Club.
Her spiritual relationship with God
was fostered through her commit-
ment to Cameron and Burns
Presbyterian Churches. This founda-
tion of faith was a great comfort to
her in her battle with cancer. Her
kindness touched many she came in
contact with and she will be missed.
Her gentle spirit as a mother, friend
and neighbour will always be remem-
bered by those who loved her.
The funeral service was held June
18, at Arn Funeral Homes, Glencoe.
Rev. Jennifer Cameron officiated.
