Brussels Tigers post 1 win, 1 loss to Dukes, Rippers
The Brussels Tigers recorded one
win and one loss in Huron County
Fastball League action this week.
On Monday the Tigers travelled to Four straight hits in the top of the
Goderich and surprised the home- first resulted in three runs for the vis-
town Dukes 9-5. itors. Moe Pipe, Terry Nichol, Doug
Conley, and Doug Shaw all reached
base. The Tigers added three more in
the top of the second on hits by Steve
Thomas and Mark Pennington, who
were plated by a Pipe double to put
the Tigers ahead 6-0.
• Goderich reduced the lead to three
by' chiseling across three runs of
their own in the fourth. The Tigers
put the game on ice by scoring
another three in the fifth as Matt
Shortreed, Thomas and Pipe all
scored.
Conley went the distance on the
hill fanning seven Dukes.
On Sunday the Tigers travelled to
Wroxeter to battle the Rippers and
came up short on a 6-4 decision.
Local track athletes were among
those to take home honours at the
Kincardine Legion meet on June 16.
Nicole Meier came second in the
800 metre and fourth in the triple
jump, while Amy Cook took a sec-
ond and third in the high jump and
triple jump respectively. Meagan
Campbell got a first and two thirds
in the 80-metre hurdles, the 100
metre and the high jump.
Kristin Palmer took home two
firsts for her effort in the long jump
and triple jump, while Kerri Meier
got two seconds in her events, the
100 and 200 metre races,
Kristyn Gerth also came out on top
The home side counted first ‘‘ nth a
run in the bottom of the first. The
Tigers took the lead in the third as
Ken Higgins and Shawn Conley
scored on a Shawn Thompson single.
The• home side jumped back into
the lead with two in the fourth and
two more in the sixth.

in the seventh as they pushed across

Shawn Conley pitched well for the
Tigers in a losing cause giVing up
only six hits while striking out
seven.

Friday night at 7:30 p.m. against the
Lieury Jets.

Josh Bruton was sixth in triple
jump while his sister Rebecca was
third in long jump and second in
triple jump.
North Huron was strong at the
Avon Maitland school . board's meet
in Mitchell last week. Local winners
were Tammy Frieburger of East
Wawanosh, first in the Junior Girls
triple jump; Anne Reilly, Grey, third,
Senior Girls shot put; Amy Cook,
East Wawanosh, first, Senior Girls
400 metres; Travis Ziegler, Grey,
second, Senior Boys 100 metres;
Josh Bruton, East Wawanosh, third,
Senior Boys 800 metres.

compete at Legion meet
Several games into the baseball
season the Walton PeeWee Boys are
proving to be an up-and-down team.
On May 28 Walton played under
the lights when they met Hibbert.
The Hibbert boys hit for nine runs in
the first two innings, something
Walton could not match, scoring
only four.
The third inning was scoreless
while in the fourth and final inning
Walton stopped Hibbert at two runs
and tried to battle back by scoring
four. Hibbert won the game 11-8.
On May 29 the PeeWees battled
back and forth with Bayfield in
Walton.
Walton started off the game by
scoring four in the first while
Bayfield hit for two. The second
inning was rather quiet with only
Walton scoring a run.
Bayfield hit for a total of seven in
the third while Walton only scored
two. In the fourth Walton got four
runs while shutting down Bayfield.
In the fifth and final inning Walton
scored seven runs and Bayfield
another eight to even out the game.
The game was tied at 17-17 by the
Atom Thunder
faces 1st loss
of season
The Blyth Atom Thunder was
handed their first loss of the season
by Goderich Canadian Tire on June
13.
The fast and positional plays of
Goderich allowed three goals to be
scored on Blyth netkeepers Blaine
Hallahan and Kenny Plunkett.
Anthony Peters scored two goals
for the Blyth team. A missed scoring
opportunity in the dying moments of
the game failed to tie the match. The
game ended 3-2 in Goderich's
favour.

On June 4 Walton met Bayfield
again, this time on Bayfield's turf.
Andrew McDonald and Mark
Wilbee pitched the game for Walton.
Walton scored a blistering nine
runs in the first inning while
Bayfield didn't bringing in any. Try
as they may Bayfield could not pull
out the win despite a total of 13 runs
crossing the plate. Walton added
another eight runs over the next three
innings. The game ended in
Walton's favour, 17-13.
Walton proved helpless against the
Belmore team on June 12.
Walton sent four pitchers against
the team over five innings, but only
McDonald was able to stop any runs
from scoring in the fourth.
Belmore's pitcher allowed just three
runs throughout the entire game.

Belmore ended the game scoring
seven runs in the fifth. Although los-
ing, the Walton boys picked up two
double plays. The game resulted in a
16-3 score in, Belmove's favour.
