Dads around town were treated to a delicious breakfast on
Sunday morning unless they were members of the Brussels
Fire Department who were busy at the grill cooking up the
tasty fare. Olivia McArter was among the many who enjoyed
the repast. (Vicky Bremner photo)

Another week has gone by and
wasn't it hot! But it was nice and
cool downstairs at the Brussels
Legion Branch. The workers are
busy with the floor upstairs and it has
been sanded and looks good. This
week the finish will go on.
Friday night supper was tomato
macaroni hamburger casserole,
enjoyed by a good crowd. This week
is chicken wings and salads.

The Majestic Women's Institute
held its meeting at Huronlea on June
13 with 17 members and nine guests
from Walton WI present.
The president, Lucy Hesse, wel-
comed everyone and had a short
quiz. Following the Ode and Mary
Stewart Collect, the secretary and
treasurer reports for April and May
Were read by Doris McCall. The sec-
retary and her assistant were attend-
ing the ACWW Conference in
Hamilton. The treasurer's report was
read by Mrs. McCall also in the
absence of Edna McLellan.
Mrs. Hesse presented Helen
Topham with a WI pin and Jane
Devries with a 40-year membership
pin.
Yvonne Knight introduced the
guest speaker, Dwayne Evans.
Dwayne showed pictures of his
month's stay in Korea. Korea is
divided into north and south. The
north has been controlled by Russia
and the south by the United States.
No one on either side is allowed to
cross the border.
A farm is about five acres. People
born on a farm usually stay on the
farm, he said. Rice is the main crop
grown there. Ginseng is also grown.
A large circle in the middle of the
area is a burial ground. Everyone is
cremated.
Ninety per cent of the people in
the north part are Buddahs. They
have strong work ethics.
. Kathy Bridge thanked Mr. Evans
and presented him with a gift.
Roll call was answered by naming
a person from another country you
wouLd like to meet and why.
Alice Brothers gave an interesting
reading.
Delegates for the area convention
on October 25 and 25 at Maryhill are
Mrs. Hesse and alternate Leona
Armstrong. Mrs. Hesse invited the
members and friends to her home on
July 17 at noon for a picnic.

Remember December? We
thought the snow would never stop
and here it is, June, 30' tempera-
tures: a smog alert for everywhere_
So enjoy it; wear a hat and sun-
glasses. Pick strawberries and think
.of that oh sc yummy strawberry
shortcake. Then rest a bit before you
have a dip in the pool.
What is so rare as a day in June?
Next winter we can think of June.
At Huronlea we had a busy, happy
weekend. June 14 the Nashville
Rejects came to entertain, then the
next day was the strawberry festival.
Saturday, June 16 was Jessie Engel's
105th birthday. Besides_ having
reached that very advanced age,
Jessie is still alert. She plays bingo
every Friday, reads her daily news-
paper and comments on the news.
Last year I wrote "We would all

Mark June 28 as the gift of life day.
We'll expect you (17 - 71 years) at
the BMG arena for the blood donor
clinic. You can improve four peo-
ples' lives with an hour of your time
and the gift of your blood.
Be nice, be charitable and be a
hero. See you on the evening of June
28.
Kang Yoon is leaving the country
on July 3 and won't be open for busi-
ness again until July 30 at 1 p.m. He
is heading for Kazakstan, part of cem,
tral Asia just below Russia, on mis-
sionary work on behalf of his Korean
Presbyterian Church.
Kang has wanted to do this sort of
work for several years, but was not
able to get a replacement pharmacist.
He now realizes this will not happen
due to the short supply of pharma-
cists and so he apologizes for any
inconvenience, but he feels a need to
go.
He has taken training since March
on language, spirtuality and gospel
preaching to name a few. This is in
preparation for his flight to
Amsterdam, followed by a 24-hour
train ride with a 30-member team
getting him to Aralsk, a small city
where poverty is the norm.
They are expected to bring their
own food as well as a good suply of
flashlights as electricity is not always
available.
Muslim is the majority religion

sharp as Jessie's. But how many
Jessie Engels are there? So a very
happy 105th from all of us here at
Huronlea.
On June 16, family and friends
gathered at Huronlea to celebrate
Jessie (Alcock) Engel's 105th birth-
day.
Jessie was born in Grey Twp. and
lived in the home where she was
born for 100 years until moving to
Huronlea.
Jessie married Archie Engel in
Aug. 1938 and they enjoyed their
life together until Archie's death in
1966.
Jessie enjoys keeping up with the
current affairs of the community,
country and world. She attributes her
long life to hard work and a strong
faith.
Happy Birthday, Jessie.
and Christianity is news.
Bev Brown returned from a good
visit with Charlotte Allan in
Montreal. Cirque du Soleil was the
highlight of the visit, but the build-
ings, the food and the people made it
well worth leaving her cat for a few
days.
Even when good cat keepers are
scarce.
