For Blyth restaurateur, the Seasons is now
By Mark Nonkes
Citizen staff
When Maxine Curry started work-
ing in Blyth over a year ago she
thought a middle of the road restau-
rant would compliment the town.
Within the year Curry has opened
Seasons, a place for tasty and nutri-
tional home cooked meals.
Seasons, which opened last week
serves daily specials, light and quick
lunches, soft ice cream and dinners,
some cooked on a charcoal grill.
Curry set up shop directly across
from Radfords, the place formerly
known as BJs Cafe.
It's a place with friendly and quick
service from young waiters and a
place with a relaxed atmosphere.
On the recommendation from
engineer Bryan Prouse of B.M. Ross
and Associates, Ashfield-Colborne-
Wawanosh council accepted a tender
for the Huron Sands water project.
It was agreed, at the May 15 meet-
ing, that H2Ontario Water Treatment
and Distribution be awarded the
contract at a price of $130,540, with
construction scheduled to begin
Sept. 4.
Bob Marshall attended the session
to tell council about the Seaforth and
District All Girls Marching Band
and their intended Spring 2002 trip
to Europe.
Sixty-five of the 90 members plan
to travel abroad and 16 of those girls
are from Ashfield-Colborne-
Wawanosh.
Council will consider the request
It's a place that should be flying, as
Curry has over 30 years in the
restaurant industry. Curry received
sponsorship for the restaurant from
Blyth resident- Grant Sparling and
co-owns Seasons with a young chef,
Jamie Rahmann, who used to work
at Benmiller Inn. Curry is a woman
with a big inviting grin and big heart.
For weeks before the opening of
Seasons, Curry gave free soft ice
cream away to neighbours, testing
out the new machine.
Curry began learning to cook as a
young girl. As an orphan, she was
taught survival skills like sewing and
cooking. After her first job at a
steakhouse Curry accepted a job
with an elderly gentleman to run his
eating facility.
"Somebody who thought they
for financial support during budget
talks.
Steve Little of the Bogies Beach
Association presented council with a
cheque for $5,000, a deposit on the
organization's share of costs for
drainage works at the beach. An
agreement for property crossing,
which had been a stumbling block,
was also presented.
Public Works Superintendent
Kevin Cook was authorized to
obtain quotes for required culverts,
signs needed to comply with new
regulations and for various signs and
posts.
Council directed staff to remove a
damaged fence at Riverside Park.
A quote for recycling will be
sought from Bluewater Recycling.
Council approved the sale of an
knew everything learned they knew
nothing very quickly," Curry
laughed.
Over 30 years later, Curry has
worked in the food industry as a food
consultant, dietitian and manager of
several restaurants around Ontario,
Curry is a busy lady. Last year she
became the manager of the Blyth
Festival cafe and in the fall accepted
a position with the festival as the
volunteer co-ordinator. She started
talking about opening the restaurant
in the winter and Grant Sparling
offered to sponsor it. She now tries
to balance the,three jobs.
The festival has been very accom-
modating, Curry said. They let her
be very flexible with her hours.
"I just enjoy work," Curry
said.

District Fire Department;
$93,128.04, general; $22,493.93,
road and $1,159.83 for Huronia
Welding, was approved.
A special meeting of council was
held May 28 to discuss a personnel
matter as well as other issues left
unfinished.
The firm of Argue and Associates
were retained to complete a review
of the Green nutrient management
plan on behalf of the township. The
NMP is for a broiler barn in Ashfield
ward.
