The day was planned to commemorate the end of East Wawanosh and Morris as separate townships. PAGE 12. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 13, 2001. 6 take 1st communion at Knox United service The Belgrave WMS held its meet- ing on Monday evening, June 4 in the church with guests from Lucknco WMS. Alice Nicholson welcomed the guests and read a poem. Kindness is a Virtue. The hymn Christ for the Lord We Sing was sung. Darlene VanderVeen and Debbie Siertsema sang Swing Low, Sweet Chariot and Faithfully Watch. Lottie Scott gave the scripture and Freda Scott the meditation. The girls sang two more selections. The secretary and treasurer reports were given. The roll call was a spring flower. Rev. Cathrine Campbell led in prayer. The guest speaker was Linda Smith who spoke on the Beatitudes and how each has a special message. Margaret Siertsema read A Thousand Marbles. Come Let Us Sing of a Wonderful Love was the next hymn. Rev. Campbell closed with prayer. The ladies served lunch and each was given a flower to take home to plant. L. Bosman hosts UCW The Evening Unit to Knox United Church meeting was held Tuesday, June 6 at the home of Louise Bosman with 13 members answering the roll call. Leader Lorna Cook welcomed everyone and thanked Mrs. Bosman for hosting the meeting. She read a poem. The worship service was conducted by Sheila Nixon. She chose Friendship as the theme. Scripture John 15: 12-17 was read. Happy the home Where God is There was sung, followed by prayer. The . next meeting will be at the home of Ruth Johnson. The general meeting will be Sept. 27. Plans were made for the camps. Cookies for Camp Bimini are to be left at Barbara Anderson's by June 20. The Grade 8 graduation dinner is June 25. Plans were made for the Over 80 Birthday- Party Tuesday, Aug. 7 at 2 p.m. Barbara Anderson gave the pro- gram. Her topic was Who is thy neighbour. She reviewed the story of the Good Samaritan and presented a modern day version. She concluded with a Bible quiz. Lunch was served by Irene Lamont and Laura Johnston. FROM BELGRAVE Duet sings for WMS Six young people celebrated their first communion following their confirmation in Knox United Church, Belgrave, on Sunday, June 3. Dorothy Coultes, clerk of session introduced Josh Bruton, Chris Cottrill, Leisa McClory, Cody McGee, Carl Procter, and Jeremy Robinson to the congregation, and following the laying on of hands, they were presented with a new Bible. The congregation also welcomed Barbara Pletch, as a new member by transfer of membership. The new hymn books, Voices United, were also dedicated at the beginning of the service. Rev. Ethel Miner Clare spoke on being excited and confused, as she spoke of all the questions raised by the contirmands during their times together, and the excitement of the future for them. Each one took a part in the service and each one assisted the elders as communion was served. The anthem I Was There to Hear Your Borning Cry was appropriate for the day, as it referred to God being with them all through the stages of their lives.
