Brussels Livestock report
Beef vealprices range from $110 to $155
Total receipts for Brussels
Livestock for the week ending May
25 were 2,579 head of cattle, 666
lambs and goats.
On Tuesday, the fed steers and
heifers sold on a strong active trade.
The cows traded $2 to $3 higher.
On Thursday, veal sold $2 to $3
higher and the lambs sold on a
strong active trade.
On Friday, calves and yearlings
were selling on a strong trade with
prices $2 to $3 higher.
There were 502 steers on offer .
selling from $118 to $124 with sales
to $133 Schmidt Brook Farms,
Woodstock, consigned one limousin
-steer weighing 1,155 lbs. which sold
to Dominion Meats for $133. Their
overall offering of twelve steers
averaged 1,435 lbs. selling for an
average of $126.08. One simmental
steer consigned by D. M. McAlpine
Farms, Ailsa Craig, weighed '1,465
lbs. and sold to Holly Park Meat
Packers for $127.75. Their overall
offering of forty steers averaged
1,458 lbs. and sold. for an average
price of $120.73.
Joe Zettler, Walkerton, consigned
six steers averaging 1,393 lbs.
selling for an average of $122.99
with his top gold steer weighing
1,370 lbs. selling for $124. Two
steers consigned by Lynda Heiwig,
Neustadt, averaged 1,348 lbs. selling
for an average of $122.30 with sales

There were 324 heifers on offer
selling from $118 to $124 with sales
to $132.25. Merkley Farms,
Wroxeter, consigned two limousin
heifers averaging 1,068 lbs. selling
to Dominion Meats for $132.25.
Their overall consignment of six
limousin heifers averaged 1,072 lbs.
and sold for an average price of
$129.27. One black heifer consigned
by Perry Sereda, Centralia, weighed
1,360 lbs. and sold for $130. His
overall offering of eighty-six heifers
averaged 1,230 lbs. and sold for an
average of $121.75. Lorne Baird,
Wingham, consigned four heifers
averaging 1,239 lbs. selling for an
average of $123.24 with sales to
$124.
Two limousin heifers consigned
by Irvin Schenk, Petersburg,
averaged 1,238 lbs. and sold for an
average of $122.76 with a top price
of $124. Abe Vanderveen, Brussels,
consigned one red heifer weighing
1,085 lbs. selling to Highland
Packers Ltd. for $122.50. Two
heifers consigned by Dennis Martin,
Hensall, averaged 1,155 lbs. and

$97.50. Four holstein cows
consigned by Terpstra Farms,
Brussels, averaged 1,299 lbs. selling
for an average of $82.90 with a top
price of $91. Keith Davenport
consigned two holstein cows
averaging 1,620 lbs. selling to
Packerland Packing Co. Ltd. for
$91.
There were 22 bulls on offer
selling from $72.50 to $91 with sales
to $103. Edith Lyness, Loretto,
consigned one blonde bull weighing
1,605 lbs. selling to Levinoff Meat
Products Ltd. for $90.50. One
limousin bull consigned by Frank
Nigh, Seaforth, weighed 2,230 lbs.
and sold to Aylmer Meat Packers for
$90.
There were 176 head of veal on
offer. Beef sold $110 to $155;
Holstein, $100. to $110; Plain
Holstein, $75 to $90. Richard Horst,
Listowel, consigned one limousin
veal heifer weighing 595 lbs. selling
to Norval Meat Packers for $155 and
one blue veal heifer weighing 635
The Second meeting of the
Belgrave Brussels 4-H was held
at the home of leader Kim
Higgins on Wednesday, May 23 at
7:30 p.m.
The club enjoyed working on
booklets with mazes and games.
Guest speaker was Dr. Allan

Web Administrator Darlene Sears,
working from Eastern Ontario,
understands first hand the
importance of remote
communications in keeping
organizations linked with their
membership. Sears works with a
total of 16 volunteer webmasters
throughout Ontario, who contribute
regularly to county-focused pages.
According to Sears, through county
based volunteers, the website keeps
growing bigger and better and is
promoting more local participation.
