District camps
end busy year
for Scout groups
FROM BRUSSELS
A large group of McKillop resi-
dents attended the May 22 meeting
of Huron East Council to request that
council pave Roxboro Line between
Sumerhill Road and Hydro Line.
The group said a great deal of wear
on the road comes from gravel trucks
to Kling's and McLlwain's gravel
pits.
Council will consider the request.

Council supported a resolution
from Woodstock asking for the
province to send funding to munici-
palities to assist in budget require-
ments and offset a potential tax
increase.

Council allocated $20,000 in
reserve money from Tuckersmith
Ward for repairs at the Vanastra
Recreation Centre.

First Brussels Scouting movement
is going strong in the town of
Brussels.
Some of the activities the boys
have been up to are cleaning the
town to help preserve nature and
beautify. You will also see them
around town holding meetings out-
doors.
Beavers have been learning co-
operation and made beautiful trinket
boxes for -Mother's Day. Numerous
games and crafts were enjoyed.

their badges, setting up the tents and
working with compasses to get them
ready for their year-end camp at
Falls Reserve at Benmiller last
weekend.
The Scouts have been preparing to
go to camp and hosting a survival
camp in June after their year-end
camp. They continue to work on
their Citizenship badges and work-
ing on skits for District Camp.

The rain on the weekend reminded
us once again that we're not in
charge of the world, even our little
corner of yard sales. It was well
worth the disappointment though as
our dirt was in need of the moisture.
Aiea United Churches worshipped
without their clergy folk on Sunday
as they celebrated the theme, We are
a Rainbow People, in Windsor while
doing the work of London
Conference. The work of the past
was celebrated and plans were made
for the future keeping the rainbow in
mind. As we struggled with details
we were reminded that in order for a
rainbow to exist we need to have
rain. Being a church that is•justice
based, we often find ourselves in
mini storms which, when they pass,
God's rainbow is a blessing.
The Gowing ' Gang gathered
recently to celebrate the 25th wed-
ding anniversary of Ken and Nancy
from Brantford as well as the love
and joy they share as a family. It was
a weekend marathon of food and
activity including lunch at the Golf
Club, a swim at the North Huron
Complex, dinner at the Bluevale
Hall, walking the streets of Brussels
using car rally rules (well sort of),
and more food at Sue and Neil's
home, Thelma's newest grandson
Simon and Grandma Betty kept the
owdiness in control.
The reports I got were a tie as to
the highlight of the weekend — the
new hamburger trim, yea right, it
looked like salt, or the tackle on the

golf course. Anyway they had a
good time.
The Lions Club and their spouses
were busy on Saturday hosting their
annual elimination draw — lots of
fun, excitement and entertainment.
Great beef from the Cardiff Catering
Crew as well as lots of other goodies
were served. The good news that
Warren Wray won and now has a big

part of our community.
We've left town for a few days.
The threat of a shivaree was enough
to encourage us to celebrate our
anniversary out of town.

There was, as usual, something for all ages at the 30th annual Brussels Lions Elimination draw
held on Saturday night. While the children were entertained by this colourful character, the
adults waited anxiously to see who the last name would be. The lucky prize went to Warren
Wray. (Vicky Bremner photo)
