THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, MAY 23,.2001. PAGE 15. HRCC-S opens again for summer job hunt Sound of Music opens at Stratford The Listowel Human Resource Centre of Canada for Students (HRCC-S) opened to the public on Friday, May 4. The Centre assists businesses and youth with their summer employ- ment needs. Last year, the Human Resource Centres of Canada for Students filled over 450,000 jobs with secondary and post-secondary students. HRCC-S offices link youth and employers and provide young people with job postings, interview advice, résumé building and job search strategies. The summer employment officers will be travelling to local high schools and students will be able to register with the centre at this time, but they are encouraged to visit the office in Listowel. The HRCC-S also provides job posting and pre-screening services for employers. These services are provided free of charge. Casual employment, such as lawn care, stone picking, babysitting and odd jobs are welcome but more perma- nent positions are encouraged as well. Possibilities could include cus- tomer service, administration, farm- ing, general labour and/or research positions. This year, the Centre will be locat- ed - at 210 Main St. in Listowel (inside the Canada Post building). It services the areas surrounding Wingham, Mount Forest, Arthur, Brussels, Harri ston, Palmerston, Clifford, Drayton and Listowel. The hours of operation are Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Employers interested in using these services and students looking for summer employment can contact the Listowel HRCC-S at 519-291- 2922 or 519-291-2925. Elderly couple reports fraud Huron OPP were contacted on May 11 in the early evening over an alleged fraud from an elderly couple in Grey Twp. A contractor who was working in the area last April 18 to April 24 approached the couple. This contrac- tor was doing tarring of driveways. The man felt pressured and gave in to the salesman. When the person was finished he presented him with a bill of over $80,000. Police reminde people not to be rushed into making a decision regarding repairs. Don't be intimi- dated or bullied into work being done. Ask for references and busi- ness cards and be wary of people who solicit door to door for work. Check with the Better Business Bureau. Get a written estimate that specifies the work to be completed and make sure the price is on the bill. Get other estimates from other companies for the same work -if repairs are needed so you can com- pare the prices. Ask a family member for assis- tance in dealing with•contractors and make sure you see proper identifica- tion from all these service people. Remember if a deal sounds too good to be true it usually is. .11•1••••F the fa ice ide ice of in -he be 0th be day end s at ited The Stratford Festival's 2(X)1 pro- duction of The Sound of Music has begun preview performances in the Festival Theatre and officially opens on Thursday, May 31.
