Club visits Huronlea
A large number of
Community Club members
visited the Huronlea Home in
Brussels last Wednesday to
help the residents celebrate
their May birthdays.
Steve • Cook welcomed
everyone and Mabel Wheeler
concurred with his remarks
before turning the meeting
over to the program
committee.
Ada Taylor, the program
convenor, invited everyone to
join in a singalong of old time
songs, which were led by Kay
Roberts, accompanied by
Freda Johnston at the piano.
Ross Anderson and Lorne
Campbell favoured with
several harmonica and piano
duets, which were well
received.
The names of residents
celebrating May birthdays
were read and everyone
joined in the singing of
Happy Birthday Dear
Friends.
John Macintosh, a popular
FROM BELGRAVE
local soloist, sang a couple of
old-time songs. He was
accompanied by pianist Kay
Roberts. These were followed
by several toe-tapping violin
and piano duets featuring
Arnold Bruce and Alf Nichol.
Ada Taylor interspersed a
number of interesting
readings and anecdotes
throughout the _ program,
which were also greatly
enjoyed. The program
concluded with another
singalong with Freda and Kay
and closed with the singing of
'Til We Meet Again.
A delicious lunch was
served by the Community
Club lunch committee and
Anne Brabender of Huronlea
thanked everyone who had
contributed in any way to
making the birthday party
such an enjoyable one.
Clean-up
Youth from the Blyth Community Church of God fundraised with a car wash
on Saturday. The monies will go towards horseshoe pits, pool table,
volleyball net and campfire pit. A total of $1,874 has been raised. (Vicky Bremner

a very successful canvas for
the Canadian Cancer Society
during April, raising $3,753
to support the work of the
organization. This was
possible due to the work of
the 18 volunteers and the
generosity of those who
donated. Thanks to all.
Mabel's Moms met at their
The WMS held its meeting
at the home of Margaret
Siertsema on Monday, May 7.
Alice Nicholson led in
prayer and Ivy Cloakey read
scripture.
The hymn The Glory of the
Spring was read in unison.
Mrs. Nicholson read a story

Presently, the East
Wawanosh Grade 7/8 class,
20 chaperons, Mr. Lee and
Mr. Lobb are off on the year-
end trip. Many fundraising
events have been held for this
bi-annual trip.
A chartered bus with a TV
and VCR should help pass the
time in transit. Several bus
tours and a walking tour of
Old Quebec city are on the
itinerary. The students' French
skills and their appreciation of
the French culture will be
enhanced.
Near the end of the week
they will go on a disco cruise
(this doesn't mean disco
music!).
Even though their itinerary
regular time on Wednesday,
May 9. Those who attended
were: Crystal Agombar,
Nicholas, Gage and Curtis
Weber; Donna Raynard,
Heidi, Curtis and Craig; Kim
Higgins, Ashley, Shelby and
Jarrod Logan. Their topic was
Physical Activities at School.
VisitorS on Saturday with
Barbara and Ross Anderson
were Doreen and Rob Roy,
Emily and Christina of
Peterborough; Nancy and
Alicia Ball of Hanover;
Sheila Brandon and Jordyn
Cousins of Guelph and
Richard, Anne Catherine and
Sarah Anderson of Goderich.

Lottie Scott led in prayer.

secretary's report and Mrs.
Cloakey the treasurer's report.

woman of the Bible.
The next meeting will be in

Students were quite creative
in their efforts and as a result
many very realistic masks
were made showing facial
contours- and an excellent
choice of colours.
The Gardening club have
started once more working
Wednesday noon hours on the
butterfly garden and pond
areas. The long winter was
not beneficial to the resident
goldfish and some
replacements have been
purchased. The frogs seemed
to have thrived and are quite
pretty in their sparkling green
and gold coats.
Welcome back to Mrs. Jane
Wilson in Kindergarten as
Mrs. MacGregor begins her
maternity leave.

On May 13 at 9 a.m. Huron
OPP were called to a
residence on Livingston Line
in Grey Twp. over the theft of
fuel. Sometime during the
night a padlock was cut off a
1,000 litre steel fuel tank in
the yard, and a quantity of
diesel fuel was siphoned from
the tank.
