Junior choir welcomes
CAA Central Ontario kicks into
high'gear for Health and Safely week
by distributing bike decals to
promote safety for cyclists.
Starting May 7, CAA Central
Ontario members will receive 'watch
for bikes' decals with their Trip Tiks
until the middle of June. These
decals, when placed on a car's
driver-side exterior mirror, remind
mOtoriStslo keep a vigilant eye out
for cyclists.
"Now that the weather is starting
to warm up. more cyclists are going
to be back on the roads," said Carey-
Ann Greenham, spokesperson for
CAA Central Ontario. "Motorists
will need to be watchful for
youngsters on bikes who may be
Unfamiliar with the rules of the road
or otherWise distracted by spring
fever." •
As part of the safety campaign,
members are invited to visit any
CAA branch throughout Central
Ontario to pick up a free reflective
sticker for bikes and clothing.
"Although only 12 per cent of all
bike collisions involve motor
vehicles, they lead to over 3,000
injuries each year in Ontario," said

Canadian Forces, which applies
them to their entire national fleet of
commercial vehicles,
CAA Central Ontario has some
safety tips -for motorists to help
prevent collisions with cyclists.
• Scan. roadways •
• When pulling up beside cyclists,
try to leave some extra room M case
they swerve further onto the road
• Watch for cyclists who may cut in
front of you to turn
• Reduce speeds, especially in a
town or city, to make an emergency
