On April 21 all 1st Blyth Scouting Sections will participate in the Millennium Project #2 at the Benmiller Falls Conservation Area. Rain or shine this is a community service project from 9 a.m. until noon, adding to the number of trees that were planted last year on the grounds. The next challenge will be to achieve the World Conservation Badge, which the Cub Pack will all work on together. The Scouts made bluebird boxes and set them up around the wooded area on Doug Scrimgeour's property. On April 4 they were to practise compass work around Blyth. The challenge was to follow a pre-estab- lished course, and to identify land- marks along- various points of the route. On April 18 Meryl Thomas will speak to the troop about alcohol, cig- arette, and drug addiction awareness. As part of the requirements for the Chief Scout Award the second and third year boys will take a first aid course in early May. On April 7 three 1st Blyth Scouters attended the Huron District Jamie Grant, General Manager of The Centre In The Square,has announced that Phyllis Diller is the surprise act at The Centre on Saturday, June 2. Diller, a leading female stand-up comic, has starred on television, in movies, and on the stage, and has headlined in venues all around the world as a professional comic. The group atended a camp to prepare for the event, passing a number of required badges. They were selected to attend by their Leaders who say the camp is for the "elite" of Scouting. the total cost of $1,500 each. Support has come from Knechtels, CIBC, the Brussels Legion, Optimists and Lions. As well the boys, from left: Bradley Hill, Devon Josling and Justin Biesinger, have been fundraising. Cubs work on conservation badge front of Memorial Hall from 9 a.m. until noon. Cubs will be selling hot dogs and pop in the parking lot across from the post office from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The Scouts will hold a rummage sale at the Blyth Veterinary Clinic from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. This is the last fundraiser of the current Scouting year. The money raised will be used to support local Scouting events.
