FROM BRUSSELS
Thursday busy
at the Branch
Happy Easter to everyone! I hope
you had an enjoyable time with fam-
ily and friends over the holiday. The
Branch and Legion family had a busy
time and fun as usual.
Thursday was a really busy night at
the Branch with a supper of delicious
beef stew being served. Next Friday
ham and scalloped potatoes are on
the menu.
Following supper was an executive
meeting for the Branch, then the 70th
anniversary committee met to get
plans in place for the celebrations in
, October. To kick off the celebrations
keep Friday, June 1 open for a wing
and entertainment evening for the
whole family to enjoy. All members
of the community are invited to
attend, so keep the night open for the
Brussels Legion.
There was Thursday night darts
and upstairs the Pipe Band was hav-
ing practice.
Easter euchre was held Saturday
afternoon with 11 tables at play.
Euchre is every two weeks down-
stairs at the Branch.

Happy Easter! The joy of the
morning and the entire weekend was
evident in every corner of the village
this Easter weekend as the cycle of
life was faced and then celebrated in
many forms and fashions.
The noon Lenten services, spon-
sored by the Ministerial group, were
well received as the United Joans
(Brussels and Walton) and Art Byer,
the new pastor from the Mennonite
Fellowship, led us in the story of
Holy Week.
The Easter Bunny from 5R's is
making a new nest in Kitchener.
Ruth Davidson took the little beauty
home.

Church silent auction is now in the
The Majestic Women's Institute
held its annual meeting in the
Brussels Library on Wednesday,
April 11 at 12:30 p.m. beginning with
a delicious potluck dinner.
Immediately after dinner Joe
Steffler gave a short, informative talk
giving the rules and stipulations on
cleaning up the roadsides. The
Majestic WI is going to do the road-
sides one and a half miles east as well
as one and a half miles west of
Brussels.
President, Peggy Keffer opened the
meeting with the Ode followed by the
Mary Stewart Collect repeated in uni-
son. Leona Armstrong gave the secre-
tary's report and Edna McLellan the
treasurer's report.
The Institute is sending $80 to the
Coins for Friendship fund. A card of
thanks was read from the Albers fam-
ily for the fire donation.
An invitation to Gorrie United
Church on April 28 was read. There
are to be three speakers and a make-
over. Lunch and admission is $14
beginning at 9 a.m. Payment is to be
made by April 20.
The roll call was answered by pay-
ing dues for the coming year and
home of Bob Smith. Thanks for the
support and enjoy the new rabbits in
your life.
Reports from Tory Hill let it out
that Councillor Wilson has hit the
Half Century mark and so Ralph
Pearson's old shed saw this celebrat-
ed properly, with old friends and
family bringing lots of good stories
and pictures to share. Enjoy the next
50 Greg.
The Optimist's Legrande Feast on
Saturday (in support of the children's
hospital) was a roaring success. An
auction, dinner and dancing put
everyone in a charitable mood and
the evening was deemed a success.
Lauri of Tastefully Yours did her
usual great things with the menu.
Thanks for the energy, the commu-
nity spirit and the donations all in
support of that spot in London. We
are ever grateful that it's there for our
neighbours, our kids and our grand-
children.
Let the Optimists know if you
missed this opportunity to offer sup-
port to their. Children's Hospital
project.
Easter Sunday saw the churches
busy celebrating their Easter people
revealing Sunshine Sisters.
The WI is to pay a membership fee
to the Historical Society.
An invitation to share two meetings
with Bluevale WI was gratefully
accepted. One joint meeting is to be
held in Brussels and the other in
Bluevale.
Lucy Hesse gave the program co-
ordinator's report and Doris McCall
reported on the PRO and Tweedsmuir
report.
Leona Armstrong presented Peggy
Keffer with a gift as well as three 4-H
leaders, Elizabeth Dewit, Joyce
Johnson and Jacquie Bishop.
Darlene Harding from Howick WI
installed the officers. They are: past
president, Peggy Keffer; president,
Lucy Hesse; first vice-president,
Kathy Bridge; second vice-president,
Janice Forsythe; secretary, Leona
Armstrong; assistant secretary, Jean
Fraser; treasurer, Edna McLellan;
district director, Peggy Keffer; alter-
nate, Edna McLellan; PRO, Doris
McCall; education co-ordinator,
Yvonne Knight; pianist, Alice
Brothers; assistant pianist, Marie
McCutcheon; Tweedsmuir, Doris
McCall, Kathy Bridge; lobbying,
status. The good Catholic folk lent us
Candice McLellan and her trumpet
so she and Phil Graber on his drums
could get the folk at Brussels United
in the proper state to celebrate
Easter.
Keep an eye on your belongings. A
front porch was not even a safe place
for a new scooter last week. Be alert
— the thieves are out there so be sure
that names and numbers are on
bikes, blades and other belongings
and remember to enforce the stealing
is wrong story.
When a kid loses a new treasure
everyone is sad.
Enjoy the new life and growth that
April brings.
Bye now, Betty G. W.
