Innkeepers honour Southwestern Ontario, Niagara
Ontario arts and culture will be on
display in conjunction with many of
Ontario's finest inns starting April 13
through until May 25.
The third annual Inns and Arts
Festival bonds the art of innkeeping
with the inspiration and creativity of
the many artists living throughout
Ontario. The festival kicks off in
Southwestern Ontario and Niagara
with tickets to the Shaw Festival and
a stay at the Inn on the Twenty. The
accommodation packages include
dinner, breakfast, wine tour and tast-
ing, and a stay in a luxurious jaccuzi
suite from $182 per person.
"As this is the third year of the fes-
tival it is probably the most cultural-
ly diverse collection of events that
the innkeepers have put together"
said Kathy Nichol, executive direc-
tor of Ontario's 29-member
Innkeepers' Association. "Both artist
and innkeeper constantly strive for
excellence in expressing their unique •
character through their work,
whether in music, paintings, or in the
creation of a pastoral setting where
the guest can find true repose."
The scheduled activities in the
southwestern Ontario and Niagara's
Region are as follows:
• Inn On The Twenty, Jordan (800-
701-8074) April and May: tickets
to the Shaw Festival including lux-
urious suite, dinner at On The
Twenty, breakfast, wine tour and
tasting. April 22 and 29: artful
cooking classes — indulge in a
three-hour cooking class with the
venue from Good Earth Cooking
School.
• The Little Inn of Bayfield,
Bayfield, (800-565-1832) April 14
- May 25: spring art show - the
broad landscapes and seascapes of
Huron County are featured indoors
this spring. April 15 — meet
Elizabeth Berry, April 29 - meet
Margo Macdougall, May 13 — meet
Leda. McAlister, May 11 - 13: gar-
dening with Marjorie Harris —
Marjorie Harris hosts workshops,
field trips and informal discussions
"four — season gardening and pock-
et gardening in impossible spaces."
• Kettle Creek Inn, Port Stanley
(519-782-3388) April 20 - 21: culi-
nary artistry - savour the richness
of this region through a tour of
local and specialty farms. After the
tour, inn chef Frank Hubert demon-
strates the creation of hor d'oeuvres
and locally raised venison, rhea and
perch with the wines of Pelee
Island. May 4 -..5: the art of land-
scaping — educational tour of a
Carolinian Forest — one of
Ontario's rarest forest types and a
demonstration of bonsai
and natural landscaping by
Earthworks.
• Benmiller Inn, Goderich '(80°-
265-1711) April 27 - 28: food for
thought - cooking demonstrations
and winemaker's dinner. May 18 -
20: Canadian author festival - enjoy
literary readings from Canadian
authors such as Alice Monroe and
Margaret Atwood.

Memorial Hall in Blyth rang out with wonderful music Saturday afternoon when the Snell Family
singers entertained at Women's Day Out. From left, are Kelly Bosman, Jordan Elliott, Lori
Stevens, Lisa Elliott, Barb Bosman and Bonnie Jewitt. The annual event, sponsored by the
Blyth United Church women provides a day filled with guest speakers, entertainment, a fash-
ion show, displays, demonstrations, penny sale and a great lunch.
Festival launches season
Celebrate with the Blyth Festival
at the launch of its 27th season of
Canadian summer theatre April 18.
This year's lineup of shows
includes: The Outdoor Donnellys by
Paul Thompson and Company, The
Passion of Narcisse Mondoux star-
ring Ted Johns by Gratien Gelinas,
the country and western musical
Cruel Tears by Ken Mitchell and
Humphrey and The Dumptrucks,
Corner Green by Canadian legend
Gordon Pinsent, Sometime, Never by
Norah Harding starring Janet Amos,
and McGillicuddy , by Keith
Roulston.
Starting off the evening at 5 p.m.
at the Garage Theatre on Dinsley
Street is singer/songwriter Michael
Taylor. As a member of the great
prairie folk ensemble, Humphrey
and The Dumptrucks, Taylor was
one of the original writers of Cruel
Tears lyrics and music. Artistic
Director Anne Chislett will be on
hand to unveil this year's • poster,
give acknowledgement to many of

Blyth's generous sponsors and intro-
duce the public to the Blyth Festival
board members.
The evening also includes seletted
readings from ari impressive lineup
of the six shows. Participating in this
year's launch are Blyth favourites
Ted Johns, Eric Coates and Kelly
McIntosh. The event will include
contests and giveaways for the 2001
season.
Volunteers of the Blyth Festival
are urged to attend to enable staff
and members the opportunity to
show their gratitude for all of the
hard work they have done to make
this season and seasons past a suc-
cess.
