Agriculture Brussels Livestock report Steers under 400 lbs. sell for $112 to $158 1 Total receipts at Brussels Livestock for the week ending April 6 were 2,261 head of cattle and 1,527 lambs and goats. On Tuesday, fed steers and heifers sold at prices $2 to $3 higher. Cows sold on a steady market. On Thursday, veal sold on a steady market with the, lambs selling $10 to $20 higher. On Friday, all weights of' stockers sold at strong steady prices. There were 374 steers on offer selling from $120 to $128 with sales to $139.50. One white steer consigned by Kada Farms, Bluevale, weighed 1,205 lbs. and sold to Norwich Packers for $139.50. Their overall offering of sixteen steers averaged 1,293 lbs. and sold for an average of $131.59. Schmidt Brook Farms, Woodstock, consigned one limousin steer weighing 1,400 lbs. which sold to St; Helens Meat Packers for $134. Their overall offering of twelve steers averaged 1.498 lbs. and sold for an average of $129.73. Dennis Bridge, Kincardine, consigned one black .steer weighing 1,295 lbs. which sold for $130. Two limousin steers consigned by Jim Howatt, Londesboro, averaged 1,430 lbs. and sold for $132. His total consignment of twenty-five steers averaged 1,496 lbs. and sold for an average of $126.97. One limousin steer consigned by Edenview Acres, Centralia, weighed 1,390 lbs. and sold to Norwich Packers for $133.25. Their overall offering of thirty-one steers averaged 1,389 lbs. and sold for an average of $126.73. Mark and Paul Pennington, Mildmay, consigned three steers averaging 1,327 lbs. selling for an average price of $126.15 with sales to $132.25. One blue steer consigned by Murray Shiells, Wingham, weighed 1.605 lbs. and sold to Bull sale draws crowd A large crowd was on hand for the 10th anniversary of the Pick of the Crop Bull Sale at Carson's Salesplex Listowel. Consignors were offered a superior selection of performance tested, predictable bulls. Prior to the sale, a short seminar was given by Dr. Steve Miller from the University of Guelph. Dr. Miller provided an overview of the - performance information presented in the catalogue including the bull's individual data and genetic evaluations on nine perforMance traits. Cattlemen were asked to vote on their favourite three bulls in the sale with the top three bulls being the first bulls to sell. The tradition of the sale is to present the buyer of the Cattleman's Choice bull from the previous year with a coat sporting a crest which read "Pick 'of the Crop/ 2000 Cattlemen's Choice." This year it was presented to Bob Gregson of Staftordville. Schultz Bros., Blyth, consigned six steers averaging 1,413 lbs. and selling for an average of $119.23 with one simmental steer weighing 1,515 lbs. selling for $129.25. There were 222 heifers on offer selling from $120 to $128 with sales to $134.50. One gold heifer consigned by Andy Vander Veen, Blyth, weighed 1,145 lbs. and sold to Dominion Meats for $134.50. His overall consignment of five heifers averaged 1,228 lbs. and sold for an average of $128.32. Rob Gardiner, Staffa, consigned one limousin heifer weighing 1,220 lbs. selling to Dominion Meats for $133.50. His overall offering of twenty heifers averaged 1,167 lbs. and sold for an average of $123.95. Eight heifers consigned by Merkley Farms, Wroxeter, averaged 1,121 lbs. and sold for an average of $130.16 with one black heifer, weighing 1,140 lbs. selling for $132. Lloyd Weppler, Ayton, consigned one red heifer weighing 1,215 lbs. selling for $126.50. Six heifers consigned by Rolling Acres, Clifford, averaged 1,311 lbs. and-sold for an average of $125.08. Their top limousin heifer weighed 1,305 lbs. and sold for $129.25. Johnston Farms, Bluevale, consigned thirty heifers averaging 1,208 lbs. selling for an average of $124.54 with one gold heifer weighing 1,165 lbs. selling for $128. Ten heifers consigned by Donald Cormack, Mount Forest, 'averaged 1,259 lbs. and sold for an average of $124.19 with sales to $129.25. Enos M. Sherk, Wroxeter, consigned two charolais heifers which averaged 1,320 lbs. and sold for an average of $122.61 with a top price of $126.75. There were 267 cows on offer.
