E. Meelinehey hosts Walkerburn Club
FROM AUBURN
Stand Fast
Knox
sermon
Palm Sunday worship at Knox
United Church began with Rev. Paul
Ross welcoming and inviting all to
worship. The opening chorus was
sung with Nancy Park, organist.
Church announcements were
given. Good Friday service will be
held at Knox on April 13 at 10 a.m.
Lois Haines invited the Bible Study
group to her home on April 19 at
1:30 p.m. Read Daniel 2 and 3.
Knox UCW will meet Monday,
April 23 at 8 p.m. Auburn
Community Care Project will be on
display. Guests will be from Blyth
and Londesboro.
The first hymn was Hosanna,
Loud Hosanna.
As the children come to the front
the children's chorus was sung. Rev.
Ross showed them a picture of
Christ and spoke to them of the entry
made to the city of Jerusalem and of
the rejoicing of the people. The
Lord's Prayer was said in unison by
all. My Song is Love Unknown was
sung and the children went to their
classes.
Scripture was given by Rev. Ross
followed by words from Luke 19.
Here Jesus rode into Jerusalem on
the colt and the people threw their
cloaks on the ground and praised
Him and called Him the King of
Peace. The Pharisees, however, did
not understand.
Rev. Ross's sermon was Stand
Fast about the necessity of following
His word and doing your best to do
as He would have you do.
The communion hymn was Here,
0 My Lord. The elders serving were
Larry Plaetzer, Trudy Sturzenegger,
Elva Armstrong and Margaret
Bakker.
Offering was received and present-
ed by Rick Archambault and Larry
Plaetzer and for the Sunday School
by Stephanie Archambault.
The Walkerburn Club met at
Eileen McClinchey's home on April
2. Prayer was given and the minutes
were read by Betty Archambault.
Bernice Norman gave the treasurer's
report and received the offering.
Ethel Ball gave an Easter reading
and invited the club to her home for
May 7. Discussion arose over,
upcoming events but no definite
plans were made or date set.
Grace Cartwright, Auburn, was
with the Club, most of whom had
watched her' grow up in the
Walkerburn district and attended old
#9 school. Grace came to teach
'dowel crochet'. The club brought
forth the dowels which ElI Lapp had
made for them, the ladies produced
their yarn and Grace taught them
how to make afghan, throws, etc.
Everyone learned but some found it
easier than others. Oh well, experi-
ence is the best teacher. The club
thanked Grace for being a good
teacher.
A number of Auburnites enjoyed
another delicious meal on Friday,
April 6 at the Blyth Anglican
Church. At least one of the group
had initiative and wore her spring
bonnet. However, there was a real
variety of special bonnets. Actually
it was a more springlike day — a great
deal of ourlovely white snow had or
was leaving.
The roast beef country supper held
at Knox United, Auburn on April 4
was really an old-fashioned meal.
I'm sure everyone felt stuffed when
they finished. There was everything,
delicious beef with horseradish and
of course gravy, mashed potatoes,
turnips and sweet corn. There was
also a choice of pies. It was practi-
cally "ask and you shall receive".
It was not only the meal but the
super waitresses and waiters and
seeing so many old friends that was
special. Guests were there from
Londesboro, Blyth and even friends
from Goderich who were delighted
to be back where they had served for
so many years. There was a full
house for the supper for the first
meal and a good crowd for the sec-
ond.
Rev. Paul Ross offered grace
before the meal and I think a good
number were in no hurry to leave
when finished. Everyone enjoyed
the meal but were also enjoying the
company of old friends.
Special thanks goes to those who
made sure others were there, those
A sing-song was enjoyed with
Brock Vodden was the pianist. They
were old tunes which we all now and
love.
The guest speaker was a lady who
loved spinning. First she showed
various articles that she had made
from various types of yarns that she
had made. Then she showed how the
yarns were made with two different
types of spinning wheels.
Bradley Lapp was with the Blyth
Cadets on Saturday, April 7 when all
surrounding cadets met for a Cadet
Day. He participated in all sports and
won five second winner ribbons.
Congratulations' to all cadets for
learning and fun.
Nancy Denys, Kipper!, visited
with her parents Saturday afternoon
and showed pictures of their family
holiday in Cuba. As the family is
growing up and two are working,
this will probably be the last big trip
for all together.
A number of Auburn and former
Auburn folks attended the Gospel
'Songfest at Londesboro United
Sunday. I'm just going to say that the
spiritual gospel songs brought back
memories. To me the junior choir
was out of this world.
For Ell, my husband, the singing
-of ,the Harmony Hi-lites was his
favourite, but we enjoyed every-
thing.
whom, for one reason or another,
without assistance would not have
been present. Special thanks also to
all who produced the delicious meal
and served it. Proceeds are for the
Sunday School. A good. Sunday
School is the beginning of a good
church, so thanks to all.
Daryl Ball and his Durnin cousins
went on a trip to India.
