Women run for senior wellness centre Three women from the Seafortlf area are making great strides in sup- port of an innovation Centre of Excellence 'for Senior Wellness at Seaforth Community Hospital. Dr. Carotin Shepherd, Faye Murray and Lynn Devereaux, who have each qualified to run in the April 16 Boston Marathon. will use that event te fundraise for the wellness centre. With Huron County's aging popu- lation, the initiative, which is sup- ported by the Huron Perth Hospitals Partnership, is seen as an "add-on" to services already provided at the hos- pital. There are three major principles for the centre aside from the possible expansion to the faCility. There are plans to offer a comprehensive inpa- tient assessment unit and art outpa- tient department with clinics for foot care, audiology, alternative medicine, exercise programs, arthritis and evening educational classes. A thera- peutic swimming pool may also be included. The ,final aspect is an out- reach and education component for geriatric medicine students from the University of Western Ontario. The marathon undertaken by the women will be a big boost for aware- ness of the fundraising campaign, dubbed Running for Excellence. Local schools will also get involved in Running for Excellence as the students are encouraged to complete 26 laps during physical education class. Those accomplishing the feat will be eligible for one of two prize packs. Murray, Devereaux and Shepherd visited Seaforth Public School Tuesday morning to speak about the marathon and the fundrais- ing campaign. A community event is planned for April 8 at which time residents can show their support through donations as well as participate in a training run with the women. Anyone wishing information on the fundraising campaign or interested in sponsoring the women in their endeavour, can contact co-ordinator Selena Anderson at 519-527-0320 or sch.foundation ® hphp.org. Donor cards will also be mailed to everyone in Huron East and Blyth.
