Sports Bulletts league champs Brussels Ladies Curling Club win- ners of the February and March draw were: first, 44 points, Val Shortreed, Dona Knight, Joanne McDonald, Jean Bewley; second, 40 points, Fran Bremner, Heidi McClure, Gloria Wilbee; Norma Harmes; third, Marie Stute, Claudia Spink, Sharon Brown, Donna Stute; fourth, Nora Stephenson, Cathy Huether, Brenda Linton, Mandy Brown. The Brussels Bulletts hosted Elma Logan Tuesday, March 20 in the fourth game of their league champi- onship series. The Bulletts lead 4 points to 2. Elma Logan came out determined to even things up. The teams fought through a scoreless first period with several scoring chances by both squads. Excitement built in the second period as the Bulletts came into the Elma Logan zone with a great chance to score only to be denied and have the Elma Logan strike back the other way and score. Denise Van Drunen broke in on a two-on-one and fired a high wrister by Nikki Berfelz in the Brussels cage. Assisting on the goal was Mandi DeBlock and Beccie VanHerk to .give Elma Logan the lead. The teams continued with end-to- end action well into the third period. With the Bulletts on a powerplay DeBlock picked up a pass outside the blueline, raced in eluding the Bullett defenceman and fired the shot in the Brussels cage with min- utes to go in the final period. Van Herk and Katelyn O'Rourke assisted on the play. With the goal Elma Logan won the game and evened the series at four points a piece. The fifth game took place in Brussels on Saturday, March 24. Elma Logan wasted no time finding the net in the opening period. Virginia VanderHyden scored assist- ed by Melissa Van Moorsel. The teams battled through a score- less second period. The shooters on both teams were visibly frustrated by the strong goaltending in both nets. The Bulletts were not to be denied however, as Brittany Campbell scored in the third assisted by Michelle Cook and Ashley Ritchie. There would be no further scoring which led to overtime. A see-saw battle continued with each team get- ting their share of scoring chances. Berfelz stood tall in the Bullett cage as did her Elma Logan counterpart. Continued on page 9 Don't be late!
