Central Huron
to get 6 vehicles
The Municipality of Central Huron
intends to get six new vehicles.
Council decided March 5, to lease
five four-by-four, half-ton vehicles
and one four-by-two, one-ton vehi-
cle. Council will enter a three year
lease, for a maximum total of
$235,456, which includes tax and the
buy-out option.
Councillor Alison Lobb requested
that the vote be recorded. She, along
with Councillor Darren Stevenson
and Councillor Marg Anderson voted.
against getting new vehicles.
"I don't think we can decide until
we see the budget," said Lobb
Reeve Carol Mitchell informed
council this decision had to be made.
It has been set aside for about seven
months. She said, "If the answer is
purchase it has to be part of our
budgetary numbers."
Council's budget meeting will be
March 27.
Council decided to lease rather
than purchase because leasing won't
affect the capital spending budget.
The vehicles are being bought to
increase the municipality's fleet by
two vehicles and to replace the
"redundant" vehicles. This would
eliminate the use of the staff's per-
sonal vehicles.
The minutes of the Feb. 19 meet-
ing read, "There was uncertainty as
to the number of vehicles, the size of
the vehicles, what would public per-
ception with vehicles taken to the
managers' homes? - are they being
used for personal use?"
Mitchell said the vehicles would
not be used for personal use and they
would not be taken to the managers'
homes.
"I still think it's hard to convince
taxpayers that we went from no vehi-

cies to six brand new ones," said
Lobb, adding, "I think we need
some. I don't believe we need six
right away. " Lobb suggested three
vehicles this year and three vehicles
next year.
Richard Harding, clerk, said he
believes council will get four extend-
ed cab vehicles but that will be up to
council.

FROM AUBURN
Sticking
together
service theme
Invitation to worship followed by
the opening chorus, welcomed the
congregation to the service on
Sunday, March I l at Knox United.
When the children came to the
front, three articles concerning glue
were shown. Rev. Paul Ross spoke to
the children of the importance of
holding things together.
Scripture from Genesis 1 was
regarding God making the earth. The
second scripture was from Luke 13.
Here the Pharisees said that Herod
would kill him and Jesus replied that
was wrong as he was blessed and
would be saved.
Rev. Ross's sermon was Sticking
in the House. He spoke on the neces-
sity of following the rules of the
Bible and staying together in God's
words. "We must be a family in His
name," he said.
Offering was received and present-
ed by the W. Carter family.
During the service the congrega-
tion was favoured by violin duets by
the M. Durnin boys accompanied by
Bernice Gross at the piano.
