A Brussels PeeWee reaches for the puck in an attempt to
slip it by the Blyth netminder in their third in a best-of -five
play-off series. The 5-4 win by the Bulls put the Bulldogs out
in three straight.

Brussels reclaimed the three-goal
lead in the second, however, when
McClinchey scored his second of the
night unassisted. Austin notched his
second with 57 seconds to go on a
feed from Brett Bean.
Early in the third frame the
Bulldogs pulled to within one on a
goal by Bean assisted by Kyle
Procter, but Brussels increased their
lead with Phillips registering the
goal assisted by Wheeler and Justin
Mayne.
The Bulldogs came bounding back
20 seconds later with Bean's second
of the night set up by Austin, but that
was as close as they would get.
Brussels won the game and the
series on this night with a 5-4 win.

ed Brussels on Thursday, March 8 in
the third game of a best of five with
Brussels leading the series 2-0.
Justin Dobie was in net for the
Bulldogs for the first part of this
game.
Brussels took the lead on a goal by
Matt McClinchey assisted by Phil
Wedow. They added to that lead 30
seconds later when Brent Wheeler
put one in assisted by Scott Phillips.
Wheeler scored his second of the
night on a nice feed by Adam
McClure with 3:34 to go in the first
to give Brussels a commanding 3-0
lead.
The Bulldogs closed the gap with
just five seconds to go with a goal by
Darren Austin assisted by Darcey
Participation in the Teeswater
tournament, March 10 resulted in
one great game and one with a less
desirable outcome for the Brussels
Novices.
Taking on Clifford in the morning
contest, goalie Ryan Smith had to
face early pressure from the oppo-
nent. Though one slid by just over
two minutes into the game, Brussels
quickly responded popping two of
their own. Cody Subject skated
from his own end, beating one
defender for the netter. Evan
Ducharme put Brussels up by one
when he got the puck from a face-off
at the blueline and scored.
The line of Brian Burgess, Robert
Cronin and Chris Becker along with
defensive players Taylor Prior and
Thomas Johnston worked well
together stopping a constant attack
from Clifford as they tried to regain
the tie.
Smith blocked a rush on a power
play and Subject helped keep the
crease clear.
Brendan Stretton and Randy Zwep
had several good attempts through-
out the game, but were continually

The Belgrave WMS held their
meeting on Monday, March 5 at the
home of Irma Mason. Margaret
Siertsema opened with the purpose
and the hymn The Lord is My
Shepherd was read in unison.
Mrs. Siertsema led in prayer and
scriptures were read by Freda Scott
and Ivy Cloakey. There was a medi-
tation on the scriptures.
Roll call answered by seven pres-
ent, was a verse on spring.
Forty-four visits to sick and shut-
ins were recorded. Mrs. Siertsema
gave the secretary report and Mrs.
Cloakey the financial report.
A report was given on the annual
meeting held in January. The King of
Love My Shepherd Is was read in
unison.

and was faced with a two-player
shortage for more than a minute and
a half. Clifford struck twice in spite
of the effort by Wilkinson, Cronin
and Stretton.
Down 5-3 entering the third,
Brussels applied pressure in the
opponent's end. Burgess netted the
puck at 10:49 from the face-off cir-,
cle.Subject's hattrick resulted in a tie
game with just 5:24 remaining.
Clifford went ahead two minutes
later and held off several attempts by
Brussels.
There were six tables of euchre in
play at the Belgrave Women's
Institute on Wednesday, March 7.
Winning prizes were: high lady,
Jean Pattison; second high lady,
Harvey McCombie; lone hands, Lois
Chamney; low, Aileen Leddy; high
man, George Michie; second high
man, Alf Nichol; lone hands, Harvey
Black; low, Allen Edgar.
The next euchre is Wednesday,
March 14 at 8 p.m.
Ten tables of shoot were in play at
the Belgrave Community Centre on
Alice Winnifred Rose (Allen)
(Smith) Vincent, a resident of the
Seaforth Manor Nursing Home cele-
brated her 98th birthday on Saturday,
March 10. A birthday party in her
honour was held at the nursing home
on the actual date of her birthday.
Special birthday greetings are also
extended from friends in Belgrave.
Happy Birthday Winnie.
Dale and Colleen Lamont of
London and Jim and Irene Lamont
enjoyed a potluck supper afterwards
on Saturday evening at the home of
Mike and Donelda Cottrill and fami-
ly. All had attended the birthday
party for Winnie Vincent.
Dale and Colleen Lamont spent the
weekend with his parents Jim and
Irene Lamont.
Mabel's Moms met at their regular
It was an excellent game with all
the players working to the final
buzzer.
Moving to the B side of the tour-
nament, Brussels faced Ripley.
Unable to stop their frequent shots,
Brussels lost 8-0 and were ousted
from further play.
Wheeler started in net, stopping
several shots with the help of defen-
sive players Prior, Thomas and
Herbie Runstedler. Cronin, Andrew
Watson and Becker worked hard to
clear the zone and slow play. Bowers
showed hustle as he raced to his own
end to defend the net.
Friday, March 9.
Winners were: high lady, Merle
McFarlane; second high lady, Aileen
Leddy; most shoots, Audrie Vath;
low lady, Freda Scott; high man,
Nell Johnston; second high man,
Bob Grasby; most shoots, Jack
Taylor; low man, Evelyn
Christensen.
A St. Patrick's Day Brunch will be
held at the arena on Saturday, March
17 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This
is being sponsored by the Belgrave
Guides and Pathfinders.
