wrap-around attempt assisted by
Hopf and Danielle Good in the open-
ing frame.
Elma Logan gained the tie in the
second when Mandt DeBlock scored
from Virdinia VanderAlyden, then,
seconds later took the lead on a
breakaway by Stephanie Kelly
assisted by Machan.
The Bulletts came bounding back
with three minutes left before the
buzzer. Hopf picked up a pass by
Nicole White and fired a nifty back-
hander by the Elma Logan goal-
tender to tie the g4me at 2-2.
The teams continued to have sev-
eral scoring chances but were unable
to find the net.
The next game will take place in
Elma Logan Thursday, March 15 at
6:30 p.m.
Highlanders win, tie
The Grey Bruce Chapman Ice
Cream Major Atom Highlanders
played two games this weekend in
round-robin group playoffs.
Game one was played against
Halton, which Grey Bruce won 2-1.
Scoring were Rhys Thomas from
Conor Gill and Derek Widmeyer and
Jordan Wright from Jay Tremble and
Mitch Ferguson.
Game 2 was played to a I-1 tie
against Guelph. Scoring for the
highlanders was Thomas from
Widmeyer and Gill.
In net this weekend was Sean
VanBerdan and Colton Routenburg
making many great saves to keep
their squad in the game.
The Brussels Bulletts hosted
Walkerton Wednesday, March 1 in
the third game of the provincial play-
down matchup. The game was a see-
saw battle.
Walkerton scored on the power-
play with Kate Weber finding a loose
puck in front of the Bullett cage and
stuffing it by Berfeltz. The Bulletts
mounted their own charge but were
unable to beat the Walkerton netmin-
der. The game continued with
numerous chances for each team but
no more scoring.
With the victory Walkerton
advanced to the provincial tourna-
ment to be held in April.
Brussels' coach MacDonald com-
mended his players on a well-fought
series.
The Bulletts next moved on to
Elma Logan for a best three out of
five series for the league champi-
onship. The opening match took
place Thursday, March 8 in Elma
Logan. The hosts opened the scoring
in the first on a goal by Ashley
Machan assisted by Candace Baillie.
The Elma Logan squad added to
that lead early in the second when
Baillie scored unassisted. The
Bulletts struck back for one before
the second period ended. Nicole
Procter walked in alone on the Elma.
Logan goaltender and fired a hard
wrist shot. Jenn Hopf and Sarah
MacDonald earned the assists.
Early in the third the Bulletts
found the net again. Brittany
Campbell picked up a pass from
Ashley Ritchie and Michelle Cook
and fired a high wrist shot past the
Elma Logan goalie.
Elma Logan regained the lead
when Baillie scored her second of
the night. The Bulletts, however,
scored once more when Ritchie
scored on a pass by Procter to end
the scoring and skate away with a 3-
3 tie.
These teams would meet again in
Brussels Saturday, March 10.
Brussels was first to score in this one
The Blyth Bantam Bulldogs
defeated Hensall seven points to five
points in an exciting six game
WOAA semi-final.
After losing the first two games,
the Bulldogs bounced back with two
victories and the fifth game ended in
an overtime tie. Game six was
played in Blyth, and the hometown
fans cheered Blyth on to a 6-1 win.
The Bulldogs then moved on to
play Wallace Twp. in the WOAA
final. The Bulldogs were unable to
generate much offense against the
powerful Wallace team and were
eliminated three straight losing 5-2,
6-1 and 7-1. Wallace went on to
defeat Walpole Island in three games
and have now moved on to the
OMHA final.
The Bulldogs have now started a
group playoff series with Wingham.
Blyth travelled to Wingham
Thursday night to open the series.
The Bulldogs were slow starting,
finding themselves down 2-0 after
two minutes of play. They bounced
back, scoring two goals near the end
of the first frame.
The Bulldogs added two more in
the second and tallied once in the
third to post a 5-2 victory.
Bulldog goalie Travis Shelton held
his team in the game until the
offense clicked in.

Seven area skaters competed at the
30th annual Western Ontario Section
Winter Invitational--_ - Skating
• Competition held in Sarnia on
March 9.. 10 and 11. Skaters from the
Brussels, Blyth and Wingham
Skating Clubs attended.
The results were as follows:
Ashley Sholdice, second in Pre-
Preliminary B Ladies; Bridget
Blake, fourth in Preliminary A
Ladies; Katie McClinchey, second in
Pre-Preliminary B Ladies;
Cassandra Uyl, second in Pre-
Preliminary B Ladies; Jamie Lewis,
fourth in Junior Silver B Ladies;
Ashley Warwick, fifth in Junior
Bronze B Ladies; Regan Moran,
fifth in Junior Bronze A Ladies.
These skaters are all coached by
Michelle Blake of Brussels.
Micah Loder scored twice for the
Dogs with singles going to Tyler
Campbell, Mike Bean and Cody
Anderson. Kirk Stewart added three
assists along with Kyle Stephenson,
Patrick Rushton, Tyler Kemighan
and Campbell.
Blyth hosted game two Sunday
night. The Bulldogs led 2-1 after one
period and increased their lead to 5-
3 after the second frame. Blyth
scored early in the last period to lead
6-3, however Wingham bounced
back with two quick goals with 10
minutes to play.,
The Bulldogs shut the visitors
down the rest of the way, to post a 6-
5 win. Trevor Koehler scored twice
for the Dogs, with singles going to
Campbell, Stewart, Lee Prescott and
Loder. Bean and Stewart each added
two assists along with Anderson and
Kemighan.
The Bulldogs travel to Wingham
Tuesday night for the third game in
the best of five series.
