PAGE 25. Mitchells usher at United service FROM LONDESBORO Seniors hear top public speakers There was a wonderful mixing of the generations at the Londesboro Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 28. The pupils whose stories/speech- es were chosen as winners in Hullett Central School's recent public speaking competition entertained the Happy Gang Seniors at their monthly meeting. Both groups benefitted from the gathering. On a less happy note, the seniors observed a moment of silence in memory of Ray Fisher and Elma Jewitt, two members who recently passed away. Marilyn Mayberry will give a recounting of trip to New Zealand with Habitat for Humanity at the March 28 meeting. Coffee, juice and muffins provided by Brian and Keri Whyte were enjoyed prior to the service at Londesboro United Church on Sunday, March 4. John and Brenda Radford greeted while Mark and Laurel Mitchell and assistants ush- ered. Flowers at the front of the sanctu- ary were offered by the family of the late Ray Fisher. Members of the junior choir under the direction of Valerie Van Reisen sang All Creatures of our God and King and Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee. During the children's storytime, Rev. Paul Ross related a personal experience. On a visit to Montreal as a teenager, he and his cousin went to a music store. He was tempted to steal a 45 record he really wanted. It was the anger of his parents if they found out that deterred him. God wants us to I'm feeling more than a little over- whelmed these days. In the past cou- ple of weeks every day seems to bring news of someone's misfortune — a death, an illness or other misfor- tune. That's not to say that my life has been tightly connected to all these people but they are all acquain- tances and many of them have con- nections to our community. When our lives have been touched by another we, too, feel their pain. resist temptation he explained to the children. From Romans 10: 8-13 comes the assurance that whomever calls on the name of God will be saved. Luke 4: 1-13 is Luke's version of the tempta- tions Christ faced when visited by the devil after His solitude of 40 days in the wilderness. Christ went to the wilderness for solitude recognizing a need to renew His faith and purpase. He emerged from that vision quest confident in His faith and mission. He recognized that His ministry would feed souls with spiritual food; save believers from the oppressive power of sin and death; and gain believers on the basis of what He said not by miracles. Christians sometimes lose touch with their faith-and need renewal. Rev. Ross suggested that four steps to renewing faith are: reading the scriptures, particularly The Psalms, When bad things happen to good people there really are no answers to the question, Why? In the midst of all this sadness, shared a particularly enjoyable day with family of as one observer said, making memories, The activity itself was secondary to the joy of sharing time together. The contrast between the two experiences brought me up short. Once again I was reminded of how important it is to tend and nurture relationships while we can, to make each day count and to not sweat the small stuff. How often have we heard this advice?, But the pressures of every- day life, of just putting one foot down ahead of the other happens. Good intentions get lost in the melee. It's never too late to make a reso- lution to effect a change in our lives. Some effort is better than no effort. seeking out a symbolic place of wilderness, asking self searching questions and waiting for answers from God. During the waiting faith will again grow strong fulfilling the message title, Finding Faith Again. • Colour Printing • Posters • Letterheads • Envelopes • Business Cards The Sunday School will have a crokinole party on Wednesday, March 14 from 7 - 8:30 p.m. Have you called Lynda Horbanuik yet to volunteer some time to help at the manse from March 10 to 17? • Business , Forms • Brochures • Flyers • Carbonless Forms • Labels Business Directory 887-9248 ALLAN FRETZ WELDING & REPAIR Tel: (519) 887-9707 Fax: (519) 887-9163 • Custom Built Loaders ' Tractor Attachments • Buckets • Bucket cutting edge replacement • Bucket quick tit plates • Stone or Manure Forks Pallet Forks Lawn Sprayers Snow or Silage Blades (plastic) RR #3 Brussels Products also available at Radford Auto & ItIcGavin Farm Equipment Ltd. hold ) e INSURANCE LTD.
