At the Branch General meeting begins week FROM BRUSSELS The Majestic Women's Institute held its regular card party in the Brussels Library on Thursday, March 1 with five tables in play. The following people won prizes: high lady, June Jacklin; high man, Don Fraser; lone hands, Les Knight and Jean Bewley. Jean Bewley also won the 50/50 draw. Two more sleeps and it's March Break. AHHH — is the feeling of the school crew, As they wait in anticipa- tion of a lovely week that breaks the winter. Enjoy all the neat things there are to do in our area and of course, remember to break from all the usual routines. So all you Grandpas invite the kids for a day with you. These are memories in the making. Fundraisers also come with the return of spring. Call Mrs. Schumacker at the school if you haven't booked your table for the April 7 Grade 5/6 craft show. The booking date is past but call her any- way just in case they still have room for your treasures. Support the school. As well the folks at the United Church are thinking Easter. They are doing a silent auction on a beautiful- ly dressed Easter Bunny made by one of our talented members. Yes we do have a few of the talented type. There are several people walking around with loads of bid slips in their pockets and they'd love to share them with you for a dollar a bid. They will probably find you. On Easter Saturday — the highest bidder will get to take the darling home. We'll call if you're the new owner, The scooters and skateboards were in evidence on Sunday as the sun shone and the puddles grew and then — darn more white stuff. Oh, well. You don't have to cook on St. By Jo-Ann McDonald It was a nice week at the Brussels Legion Branch. It started with the general meeting on Monday evening. There weren't very many members out and we real- ly wish more could make the effort. We changed the opening time on Saturday to 3 p.m. for awhile, so you can drop in for a mid-afternoon break a little sooner. A donation was made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. The plans are in place for the Honours and Awards night on March 24 to begin at 7:30 p.m. Initiation will also be held then. This week is roast beef and supper starts at 5:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon euchre had 13 tables at play. The winners, with a high of 90 points, were Allan and Viola Edgar. Second with 80 points, were John and Iola Subject and get- ting third place was Marjorie Smith and Vera Ahrens with 70 points. The lucky lone hand winners were Shirley Dittmer and Neil. Hatt. The Branch hosted tri-county darts' on Sunday. Thai Sunday was the sin- gles dance to the music of the Country Versatiles. The public speakers from last week's speaking event participated in the zone level competition in Seaforth on Saturday afternoon. The three young speakers Were Matthew Cardiff, Angela Winger and Candice McLellan. They had a long but enjoyable afternoon listening to many interesting speeches and although they are not advancing to Don't forget to give your Knechtel grocery tapes to your favourite non- profit group. On Saturday, March 10 some Lodge supper a success The regular meeting of Morning Star Rebekah Lodge, Brussels took place on Feb. 27 with V.G. Sister Joyce Jacklin presiding. It was reported that N.G. Sis. Lillian Moses is now home from hospital. A successful Valentine supper and euchre party was held on Feb. 19. Plans were made to hold a regular card party on Monday, March 19 with the casserole supper to be held in April. The Oddfellows are now selling tickets on a chicken supper to be held at BMG Community Centre on March 21. The next regular meeting will be held on March 13. V alh 4 4, V members of the Branch are going to gather and have a cooking bee. They are going to prepare dishes that can be frozen, then served for the Friday night suppers.
