Seaforth Girls band plans for busy season
Heading south
The members of the Seaforth Girls School Band are rehearsing and preparing for a trip to
Florida where they will sing the national anthem for a spring training Blue Jays game. (Photo sub-
mitted)
At the Branch
The Seaforth and District All Girls
Marching Band will soon be on the
move again.
During the upcoming March
break, the group will be travelling to
Florida for a week of performances,
sun and sand. The band has been
invited to perform at Universal
Studios in Orlando for a production
called Lights, Camera, Music. After
the performance, the group will
spend the day exploring Universal
Studios and Islands of Adventure
theme parks.
The band will be 'guests of honour
at a Toronto Blue Jays spring train-
ing game in Dunedin, where they
will give a performance on the out-
field prior to the ball game. The band
will also perform 0 Canada and the
American National Anthem will be
sung by band member Cassandra
Irwin. The snowbirds love to see the
Canadian girls and due to rave
reviews of past performances, the
band has an open invitation to per-
form for the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Tampa Bay Lightning will
host the Toropto Maple Leafs at the
Ice Palace in Tampa Bay On March
15. The band has been invited to
entertain spectators prior to the
hockey game.
The group also plans to spend a
day exploring beautiful Busch
Gardens in Tampa -Bay before head-
ing for home on March 16.
The band will entertain at the
RCMP Musical Ride in Goderich in
May, and throughout Ontario at
parades, fairs, elementary schools
and senior residences.

umental task of fundraising has
already begun for this once in a life-
time adventure. .
Speakers do great job
By Jo-Ann McDonald
It was a great week at the Branch.
Wednesday night the Branch level of
public speaking was held and what
wonderful young people we have in
our area. There were six speakers in
three different categories from
Brussels and Grey schools who pre-
sented a variety of topics in their
speeches.
The winners in the storytelling
division Grades 1 - 3 were Matthew
Cardiff, first and Mackenzie
Dougherty, second. The junior divi-
sion winners Grades 4 6 were
Angela Winger, first and Kayla
Bishop, second. The senior group,
Grade 7 - 8, winners were Candice
McLellan, first and Anne Reilly, sec-
ond.
The first-place winners will com-
pete in Zone Level competition in
Seaforth on Saturday, March 3. We
congratulate all the children who
stood up in front of a crowd of over
100 people attending the event. The
experience of speaking in front of a
crowd can be terrifying and we
applaud all our children for doing
such a fine job.
- The judges for the evening were
Joan Golden, Margaret Jarvis and Les
Cook. They had a difficult job and we
thank them for their time and talents
for that evening.
We also must congratulate all the
parents and teachers who encourage
the children to participate. Without
the guidance and encouragement of
concerned adults, we would not have
as many fine young speakers in our
community. Thanks to everyone and
to Comrade Sandra Josling, youth
chairman at the Branch.
As usual, we had Cadets and mixed
darts this week, but we had to move
Beavers to the school because of the

public speaking event.
Wednesday evening also had men's
stage euchre downstairs with four
tables of men at play.
Friday the Ladies Auxiliary catered
to the dairy producers and because of
poor weather, they were a few people
short. But that was the Friday night
supper goers gain as they enjoyed a
lovely roast beef dinner that evening.
Next week is roast pork.
The Branch was saddened to hear
of the passing of Comrade Martha
Logan. She was a dedicated Auxiliary
member and will be missed by all.
Our sympathy is to her family in this
difficult time.
To members and friends donating
items to our cooking bee March 10
we are accepting items all this week.
Cash donations will be used to pur-
chase anything needed. For info call
the Branch after 4 p.m. at 887-6562.
Good luck is sent along with our
area dart players and euchre players
participating at District levels this
weekend.
Keep March 24 open for Honours
and Awards evening as well as initia-
tion for all of you that haven't been
initiated.
