The judge had little sympathy for a
Wingham man, charged with driving
while disqualified and dangerous
driving, during his appearance in
court on Thursday.
Terry Willoughby was arrested
after an incident on May 13.
According to Crown Attorney Bob
Morris, an officer patrolling on foot,
saw an ATV travelling at a high rate
of speed. The driver had no helmet
and a young passenger.
Morris said that when the officer
attempted to stop him, the driver
accelerated towards him. After
getting back into his cruiser, the
officer followed the ATV for some
time before apprehending
Willoughby.
Judge Garry Hunter was told that in
1999, Willoughby had been
prohibited from driving for two years
as the result of an impaired charge.
Defence Counsel Tom White, said
his 37-year-old client "had no
excuses for his! actions that day. He
saw the police and panicked."
White noted that Willoughby's
entire criminal record relates to
alcohol in some way. He said his
client has made a big change since
this incident having been sober since
August. Willoughby attended a
rehabilitation centre of his own
accord, White said. "He is attempting
to turn his life around."
However, while White said a jail
sentence wouldn't be the best answer
for his client's situation, Hunter
disagreed. "It may not be the best, but
it's the only thing rational," he said.
Taking into account the
"substantial record", Hunter told
Willoughby he was "getting a break
at four months." He sentenced him to
two months consecutive on _each
charge. He was also placed on 12
months probation.
Death threat
A Wingham man pled guilty to
uttering a death threat. Morris said
that Christopher Bell had held a
butcher knife to his throat and his ex-

Morris said the 27-year-old had also
told the victim that "if it wasn't for the
law she would be six feet under."
Bell, who had been in custody for
28 days and has no criminal record
was given a suspended sentence. He is
not to associate with the victim and
can only arrange contact with their
child through a third party. Bell is not
to be within 100 metres of the
victim's residence. He was placed on
probation for two years and is
prohibited from owning weapons for
10 years.
Public disturbance
Causing a public disturbance cost
three area men $100 each. Dustin
King of RR5, Wingham and Jason
Metcalfe of RR1, Clifford were
charged Dec. 30 after police broke up
a fight on a street in Wingham.
Both men pled guilty.
In an unrelated incident Jason
McBurney of Beigrave was arrested
Dec. 23. Morris said police observed
a crowd gathered at 3 a.m. in
Wingham. McBurney's behaviour
was described as "loud" and
"aggressive". McBurney also pled
guilty.
Fail to appear
John VanDiepenbeek, RR7,
Lucknow was fined $100 for failing
to appear in court.
Morris said the 20-year-old was
arrested Sept. 28 for possession of a
controlled substance and breach of
probation. He failed to appear for his
scheduled court date.
Assault
Bob Leger of Brussels was given a
suspended sentence and placed on
probation for 12 months.
Police were told that Leger had
slapped the victim during an
argument. Defence Counsel William
Kennedy said the 49-year-old
admitted his conduct was
inappropriate and was "truly sorry",
adding that alcohol had been
involved.

The most important factor in
delivering good quality milk is to not
neglect the milking system. "It is the
most important piece of equipment,"
he said.
On his list of maintenance
do's were regular checks by
a 'competent' technician or

visual inspection of accessibie
areas to look for soil deposits
both organic and inorganic,
control of the water temperature in
the pipelines when washing the

awareness of the amount of
chemicals used with automatic
systems and a general cleanliness of
