the minutes of the last meeting and
Treasurer Edna McLellan gave the
financial statement.

Friendship reports were read by
Edna Pletch and. Lucy Hesse.

gory anyway. Flowers are always
appreciated, especially in February
and they remind me of living and life
and love. My dad used to say to give
the flowers while they're living, so I
guess that message is out.
It will be a proud day for a former
Brussels-area resident when the

'awards, March 4.
Singer-songwriter Sarah Harmer,
daughter of Isabelle Speirs Harmer,
who had once lived on Cranbrook
Road west of Hoover's Bridge, was
nominated tor two Juno awards.

The roll call was answered by
naming a favourite or least-liked
entertaining monologue on farming
and the agricultural industry.
Following her monologue, she con-
ducted a questionnaire on the infor-
mation given.
Prizes were won by Mrs. Keifer,
a team of scientists to the new
Scientific Affairs Unit.
Daughter-in-law of Sheila
Richards of Brussels, Sadler
Richards, who has a Ph.D in plant
science, will participate in a study to
determine how Canadian economic,
social and environmental forces
influence the agriculture and the
agri-food sector.
Sadler Richards will also continue
to focus her attention on sustainabil-
ity and protecting soil and water
quality.
Our students can relax a little for
now. The speeches in the gym are
over and the Excellence Reading
pledges and the magazine sales are
in. Now on to plans for the school
council meeting next Tuesday at 7
p.m. as well as organizing the Grade
5/6 craft show on April 7.

World Day of Prayer is coming.
The significance of this day is that it
has been around since 1922 and
always held on the first Friday of
March. Wow, an International event
in our village. Our five churches
rotate in hosting this time together.
This year it's at Melville
Presbyterian MarCh 2 at 7:30 p.m.
Please try to. attend.
Muriel Coultes and I spent the
weekend in Toronto at a
Stewardship meeting for the United
Church (Ralph just goofed off). My
table group had folks from B.C..
Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan, and
Ontario as well as Martin from
Newfoundland.
It was good to hear his take on our
church at work, as well as hearing
that he had left seven feet of snow at
his front door with more coming
daily. They've had 400 cms. this
winter. It made Brussels look real
good.

Bauer, Pat Button and Helen
Topham.
Happy Birthday was sung to Helen
Topham who celebrated a birthday
on Feb. 16.
Lunch was served by Yvonne
Knight and Edna McLellan.
The mainline churches have to
rethink how they operate mission.
Seventy-five per cent of the popula-
tion does not attend church on a reg-
ular basis.
Historically the United Church
offers long-term assistance. To name
but a few: food growing projects,
family assistance, water and skills
programs in Canada and overseas.
But now heart-wrenching TV ads are
part of the religion story, so do we
compete in the media with the big
business religions or do we keep the
past practice of dired aid with our
declining dollars. We Offer 95 per
cent of the donated dollars directly at
the programs but the audience is
declining.
Enjoy your week.
