Special to The Citizen
Last Friday night, local band
Silence held a video/CD VIP and
Media pre-show screening at Joe
Friday's in Goderich and afterwards
played with other local band
Countermind at the Livery, also in
Goderich.
Silence, which includes Micah,
Melina, Matt, Mark, and Manny
Hussey fielded questions along with
Manager Bryan Pickell and Nathan
Stewart (director of the video for
Ruins the single).
The video was Nathan Stewart's
directorial debt as he is in
his last year at design school. It was
shot over three separate days but
took about three months overall to
do.
The ideas for locations for the
video came quickly. Band members
were. at F.E. Madill Secondary
School for commencement and
decided to take a ride in the elevator.
According to one of the band mem-
bers, it was "the nicest elevator they
had ever seen" and they decided to
shoot the interior shots there.

They also liked the open area at
Goldie Mill in Guelph and decided
to film the exterior live shots there.
The inspiration for the video came
from ideas that Silence already had
and it was taken from there. The
video was filmed with a friend's dig-
ital camera and Silence edited it and
Stayed within their $2000 budget for
the video.
"You can always make your dream
happen with what you have"; said
Mark Hussey.
They decided on Ruins for their
first video because it was one of the
favourite songs of the band. They
also held a party with their friends
and Ruins was the first pick so they
went with it.
The video has been sent to Much
Music and they encourage everyone
to request it.
Level (Deliver), the follow-up CD
single, will be released in February
and follows a similar format to
Ruins, including a video. The
release of Saintless, which will be a
full length CD, is to be released on
March 31. The album will
be supported by two additional CD
singles and videos in both April and
May.
When asked what was next for
Silence, Pickell said that they are
looking into the U.S. market, mostly
Boston and New York City, and that
they are also looking overseas.
They will also be getting some air-
play on FM 96. "They are definitely
moving forward," Pickell said.
A lot of their inspiration comes
from family and friends and "just
looking around and finding the beau-
ty in everything" said Melina.
Their vision for the future is to be
"one of the biggest bands in the
world" and 10 years from now they
want to be playing stadiums.
Pickell says that Silence "has the
musical talent to make it but they
also have more."
