UCW members view completed quilt FROM AUBURN By David Emslie Clinton News-Record As three municipalities continue the work to become one, Central Huron is on the lookout for a logo. "We have no logo at all right now," explained Ward 1 Councillor Laurie Cox, adding that the council would like to hear some ideas regarding a logo, or see some graphics if a person is so inclined. As the Twp. of Central Huron, which was formed through the amalgamation of Goderich Twp., Hullett Twp. and Clinton;was still in the planning stages, a call went out to the public for assistance on a logo, but the call was not answered. "We got actually no response at all," Cox said, pointing out, though, that at that time, Central Huron was not an official municipality, but just an idea. "Now we are a reality." Although council does not have any particular type of logo in mind, Due to the beautiful white flakes that built up ,on roads, lanes, driveways; the usual UCW meeting had to be cancelled. However, Tuesday evening, Jan. 23 the UCW met at the church at 8 p.m. On display was a beautiful quilt that had just been completed. Thanks goes to Bernice Anderson for the material and to all the quilters who did the lovely quilting. Bernice Gross opened the meeting with prayer. She and Ruth Armstrong continued with scripture reading a discussion on the coming season. Scripture was from both the old and the new testament. A seasonal hymn was sung during the worship. the councillor said, "It would be very nice having something that represents all three original municipalities." He later said, "Our idea was, it .vould represent what was Clinton, what was Goderich Twp., what was Hullett Twp." Cox added, though, that this does not mean something completely unique will be turned down. "Somebody may really capture what is Central Huron in something unique." All three of the former municipalities have some form of logo or crest that was used in the past. Clinton has both a coat of arms and a logo, and has also adopted three different slogans over the years - "Hub of Huron", "Heart of Huron" and "Home of Radar." Clerk's assistant Brenda MacIsaac, when looking through the Continued on page 24 The business section took over and minutes of the former meeting was 'read by Elva Armstrong. Rev. Ross offered prayer. The children came to the front. Out of the minister's mystery bag a crystal ball with bubbles was drawn. Rev. Ross spoke to the children about the value of this with regards to fortune telling. The first scripture was from Jeremiah 1. God's word told Jeremiah that he had been or- dained as a prophet of nations and would .go where sent and speak as ordained. The second scripture was from excellent church care and flowers. A number offered assistance for the coming year. Lunch was served by Mrs. Gross and Mrs. Armstrong. Luke 4. Jesus told people that a prophet was not known in his own country and later He left them and went to speak to others. The sermon was on Predestination. "Is our life planned for us?" he asked. People have certain abilities that give them the power to be a lawyer, farmer, teacher or labourer. But not everyone is able to follow their desires. However, with God's help they can do their best with their life. In the church announcements it was noted that by Feb. 1 annual reports should be submitted.
