Lightning ties Hamilton
The Saugeen Maitland Lightning
Bantam Ladies travelled to Hamilton
on Saturday,. Jan. 27 to face-off
against the first place Hawks who
have a two-point lead on the
Lightning.
Both teams came out hard and the
first period was fast-paced ending in
a scoreless tie. Saugeen came close
in the second period when Brittany
Roberts beat the goalie but was
stopped by the crossbar on a two-on-
one rush. Hamilton had a few good
chances of their own but were
stonewalled by Terri Allen.
PeeWees lose 3 in tourney
It was a rough tournament for the
Brussels PeeWees when they trav-
elled to Ayr on the weekend.
Their first challenger, Ingersoll,
topped the squad 5-0 with one goal
on the power play.
They met Ayr later on Saturday,
going down 9-1. Matt McClinchey
scored the lone Brussels tally with an
assist from Matt White..
The PeeWees played their final
game Sunday against Kitchener.
Though defeated, the match was
much closer with the final tally 1-0.
After two periods of high-intensity
play with no scoring, both teams
were hungry for a goal in the third.
Chances were few and frustration set
in as both teams wouldn't give an
inch, which resulted in a penalty-
filled period, ending in a scoreless
tie.
It could be a race to the wire for
these two teams. Saugeen has six and
Hamilton has seven games left in
league play. The Hawks and
Lightning play each other one more
time.
The Blyth Purple Tykes hosted
Brussels this past Saturday.
Blyth bounced on to the score-
board early on a one timer by Trevor
Raynard. Assisting this effort were
