Ten tables were in play at euchre
last Friday evening at the Cranbrook
Hall.
Winners were high lady, Edna
McLellan; high man, Stewart
Musgrove; low lady, Velma
Sleightholm; low man, Keith
Turnbull; lone hands, Verna
Crawford, Marg Huether; travelling
lone hand, Isabelle Bremner; tally
cards, Elunid McNair, Lloyd Smith,
Alice Keifer, Linda Stevens, Mervin
Schneider, Loraine Secret, .and
Lloyd Weber.
The next euchre game will be held
on Friday, Feb. 2.
Last Wednesday the dart game
evening at the Hall was well
attended again. Thirteen people
played. Games start at 8 p.m.
Wednesdays.
It is auditor time at the township
again, thus it was time to do the
books for the Cranbrook Community
Centre. Even with the cost of reno-
vations to the basement to make the
hall wheelchair accessible, they
managed with the support of the
community to keep the hall self-suf-
ficient. There was even a very small
profit of some $200.
Sharon Evans, Graeme
MacDonald and I (who serve on the
Hall board) thank everyone who
contributed to the running of the hall
by donations and attendance of
events.
Euchre parties and dart evenings
and rentals make up a large part of
the Hall income. If there are people
interested to serve on the hall board
there also still is space for new
members.
Just in case you were wondering,
the millennium twins are doing well.
Benjamin likes to stand up, support-
ed by extremely chubby legs and
assisted by whomever has the time
and inclination to do so. He looks tri-
umphant, thinks he owns the world
and acts like he is going places while
just standing on his feet.
Evelyn, the practical one, rolls
around on the floor like a dust devil.
She decides a spot where she wants
to end up and rolls over and
over...and gets places. She needs no
one to get her to where she wants to
go.
I don't know about you but I hate
to see any business close down and
due to economic conditions the
Walton Country Store will be having
different hours. As of Feb. 1 the store
will be open from 12 to 6 p.m. and
other hours as opportunity arises
from Monday to Saturday.
Winter months are extremely hard
on the little store as customer flow
slows down to almost a standstill
some days.
My concern is how much the store
will be missed if it does shut down
completely. Where else can one go
and be greeted with such cheerful-
ness (even in the mornings), receive
words of encouragement or given
friendly advise. She even lends a lis-
tening ear to those who are in need
of such a thing.
I know that I have been in there
lots of times when B.J. has directed
lost strangers to the destination that
they were trying to reach, or
befriended a person who was look-
ing for work or even a place to stay.
She has helped a lot of people along
the way.
You can get great computer advice
from Thys and engage in some inter-
esting discussions. There must be
some way to help keep the store
alive.
I have a few things here to chal-
lenge your mind, to get your brain
working or perhaps to help you look
at yourself in a deeper sense. I was
talking to a few teenagers and I
asked them about what pictures or
images they had about themselves.
Their answers were quite interesting
and in some cases quite sad as well.
So I am asking you, what images do
you have about yourself? And do
you see the harm of having a self
image or an image of anyone? Is it
possible to not have an image of
one's self or an image of anything?
There I will let you think about
this all week and I will ask you some
more challenging questions next
week.
