PAGE 17. Hymn sing begins service FROM AUBURN At 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 8 the Walkerburn Club met at Vera Penfound's home. The members had been wondering whether it would be possible to have the meeting with all the white stuff on the roads and lanes. • However, the roads have been kept open and in good condition by the road crew and the driveways by snowblowers, plows or shovels by the homeowners so there was a good The Sunday Service for Jan. 14 at Knox United opened with a hymn- sing of several old familiar and beautiful hymns. Bernice Gross was the organist. Rev. Paul Ross welcomed all and drew attention to church announce- ments. The children were invited to the front. Rev. Ross produced a small aquarium with tiny fish that had been a Christmas gift for him. He spoke to the children about light and water. The children went to their classes. Rev. Ross gave the scripture from I Corinthians 12. Some may worship in a different way but still for the same God. The second reading was from John 2. turnout. The meeting opened with prayer by Ethel Ball, followed by two inter- esting readings. Minutes were read by Betty Archambault, as were let- ters received concerning the season's gifts. Roll call was reciting nursery rhymes. The Club is making baby quilts and afghans so this was a working meeting. Needles, scissors and mate- Christ and his disciples were at a wedding and they were out of wine so Jesus asked them to till the wine jugs with water and the water was turned to wine. The sermon Gifts from God was given by Rev. Ross. This world is tilled with all kinds of wonderful gifts which people simply accept. Without God there would be nothing, Rev. Ross reminded. The communion service was held beginning with the hymn Spirit of Gentleness. The elders assisting were Nancy • Park, Trudy Stu rzenegger, Anne Vincent and Elva Armstrong. Following communion offerings were collected • by the Cronin family. rial were put to use. Some surprised themselves by remembering how to make the stitches. The nursery quilt will be very nice when finished. Plans were made for the next meeting which is to be held on Feb. 5. Weather permitting, members may do some visiting then. Mrs. Penfound invited all to the dining room. She served a delicious Elizabeth cake and ice cream plus drinks. Walkerburn Club gathers erving sausages Ken Grigg of the Auburn Lions Club, helped serve up break- fast as area residents stopped by the community hall Sunday morning for some great food. Another Lion's Club breakfast was served at the Auburn Hall on Sunday. Needless to say the Lions are good cooks. I do know that from the size of their pancakes they are soon going to have to use bigger plates or smaller frying pans. They are huge as well as delicious. Thanks again Lions. Nancy and Greg Park have returned home from a holiday in Florida. They had a most enjoyable time. Unfortunately Greg has a nasty cold now. Recent visitors with the Lapp Srs were Ell's brother - Don from Waterloo and his youngest son Geofery from Montreal. It had been a number of years since the latter had been here. Nancy Denys came for a short visit with them also. Consolations are offered to Shirley Norman and family of Wingham because of the recent family death. Dorothy Grange is a patient at Goderich hospital and was quite ill but is reportedly improved. Sunday was her birthday and all close fami- ly members visited her with birthday cake and all the trimmings. Happy Birthday and many more is wished to her from all her friends in Auburn and district.
