Delores liciwatt and Hazel Reid were in third place with 74 points. Three couples tied with seven lone hands, Eric and Bernice Moore, Gord and Yvonne Dougherty, and Josephine MacGregor and Don Buchanan. There were also three winners of the share the wealth draw. The next card party will be held on Friday, Feb. 12. Happy Gang Seniors' monthly meeting will be held Wednesday, Jan.31 at 12:30 p.m. The second Sunday of Epiphany is also known in Christendom as Baptism of Jesus Sunday. The Sacrament of Holy Communion was observed at Londesboro United Church on Jan. 14. Ushering were pert Lyon and Garnet Wright. The senior choir sang I Was There to Hear Your Borning Cry as an anthem. Rev. Paul Ross, during the chil- dren's time, showed them a gift he received this past Christmas. The gift was a lighted, water-filled container which held a small shipwreck and some sea monkeys. He assured the young folk that because every gift is an expression of someone's love, it should be appreciated. I Corinthians 12: 1-11, Paul talks of the nine spiritual gifts God may gave to His people. The scripture passage from John 2: 1-11 is the story of the first miracle performed by Jesus; the turning of water into wine at a wed- ding feast in Cana. The message was Gifts from God. Rev. Ross stated that all of God's people receive at least one of God's spiritual gifts. Christians must use these gift(s) so the whole community of God's people will benefit. By shar- ing these gifts, and living their faith in the context of community, Christians show appreciation for God's gifts. Focus on Sabbatical is a strategy planned by western farmers to not grow grain or oilseed crops for a year. This topic will be discussed at the manse on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 7:30 p.m. In Rev. Ross's absence next Sunday, the guest speaker will be Richard Bain. The photo directories have arrived. If you have not received your copy, contact your elder. Many thanks for this beautiful record of our congrega- tion are offered to the committee, Garnet ahtzt Margaret Wright, Jim and Ramona -Jainieson. Helen Date, Deb Stevenson and Kern Whyte and also to those who submitted the extra event and group photos. Firefighters battle blaze in Hullett It was a fire which could have resulted in far more damage, but Blyth Fire Chief Paul Josling said the Thursday morning call to John Wiersma's property at Lot 5, Conc. 14, Hullett, was minor in nature. The Blyth and District Fire Department was called out at 6 a.m., Jan. 11 after fire had spread into the wall of a shed. Josling said the blaze was the result of sparks from welding done the previous day. It had gotten into materials beneath a piece of equip- ment and smoldered all night. "(The property owners) had the fire pretty much out when we arrived," said Josling, "but it was still hot." He said it was fortunate the fire had not gotten into the open polyurethane on the walls, which can go up very quickly. The damage was minimal, only a few hundred dollars, he added. Saying farewell Former students, co-workers and friends had the opportuni- ty to offer retiring teacher Dave Medd best wishes when they gathered at Hullett Central Public School, Jan. 14, for an open house.
