A light had come crashing to the floor, Principal Willie Laurie said the (Avon Maitland School) board responded immediately, on site in less than an hour to make repairs and determine the cause of the fall. Laurie said a lugnut on one stack which attached suspended lights to the ceiling had come loose. As it pulled loose, the entire fixture came down. She added that the light had prob- ably been installed up to 20 years ago and there were one-inch screws holding the lights into wooden beams. Longer screws were used to replace all existing screws. Mike Rau, plant manager for the school board said the exposed wood- en beams to which the fixtures are attached were used in four schools in the county. The process to check all lights at Grey Central, Hullett Central and Usbome is continuing. No problems have been found at the other schools, he said. A new fixture for Blyth is on order and should be delivered this week. did not have the proper type of tail to be a cat. I questioned my husband if there was any possibility that groundhogs are out in mid-January. Considering that we were experiencing January thaw, he said, it was a possibility. Then we realized it was something I thought only Granny and Jed from The Beverly Hillbillies had, a pos- sum. I later learned that two pos- sums had previously been reported in our neighbourhood and one of Blyth's employees had already cap- tured one. Hopefully no more of these critters will be around.
