Sandra Gooding of Listowel was
the grand prize winner in the Blyth
Bulldogs Sweepstakes "Win a
Cruiser for Christmas" draw held
Christmas morning. Gooding bought
the winning ticket from her son-in-
law, and Blyth native, Jeff Sippel.
The prize was a 2001 Chrysler PT
Cruiser Limited Edition valued at
$31,380. Sweepstakes organizers
paid the taxes and Gooding chose
red for the colour of her new Cruiser.
One thousand and fifteen of the
$50 tickets were sold and organizers
Dwight Chalmers, Todd MacDonald
and Steven Sparling are pleased to
contribute net proceeds of $13,003
to the Blyth & District Community
Centre Capital Fund. This brings the
two-year total sweepstakes contribu-
tions to the fund to approximately
$35,000.
"Todd, Dwight and I are commit-
ted to organizing five of these draws
and we will continue to make only
minor changes each year — and gen-
erate as much cash and excitement
as possible," said Sparling.
Last year's winner traded in the
pickup truck for a van, and this year,
organizers chose the PT Cruiser for a
number of reasons: it's extremely
popular, the waiting lists are long,
it's Motor Trend's "Car of the Year",
and, it appeals to women buyers.
"Most ticket buyers last year were
men, and that's great. But we wanted
to raffle a vehicle that would appeal
to women, too. And it worked. We
more than tripled the number of
women buyers — and our winner was
one of them," Sparling added.
"The ongoing success of the
Sweepstakes depends on the gen-
erosity and support of Blyth resi-
dents past and present. We appreci-
ate the help of all our ticket sellers
and buyers", Chalmers indicated, "
and we will be back again in the
fall."

During the public question period
Dan Kitts, a resident of Wingham,
informed council that he had been
looking at the town's web site and
noted that it needed to be updated.
Kitts also questioned council on
whether there would be an increase
to consumers in hydro costs with the
move to Westario.
Layton and Councillor Archie
MacGowan both assured that a
report received by council indicated
that the increase was not going to be
as drastic as in other municipalities.
Kitts also asked whether the vil-
lage sign had been paid for by coun-
cil. Layton said that Wingham had
made a donation and the remainder
had been paid by the Horticultural
Society. The sign will be lighted.
A lack of information regarding
the new complex was another issue
brought forward by Kitts. Layton
said that would change now that
Cousins had been hired.
***
Blyth resident Joe Hallahan
expressed his concern regarding the
county's decision on ambulance
service.
Layton said that neither he nor
Deputy-Reeve Jeff Howson, the
municipality's representatives to the
county, sat on the committee dealing
with this. However, he promised to
pass on Hallahan's remarks.
