A NOTE FROM BETTY
Well Christmas is now over — all
gone but the memories.
Lions Park Hill and the village
sleighs can cool off this week as the
kids return to -school. Darn — it was
good while it lasted.
It's a good time now to do all those
little things that usually just wait —
like cleaning a drawer or two,
smoozing at the Thrift Shop, sorting
the photographs or doing the 1,000-
piece puzzle you got for Christmas.
Ah, yes it's time to cocoon.
Good news from the business
group — a meeting is to be held this
week in co-operation with Seaforth
Business to promote Huron East.
Both groups are taking part in the
Job Creation program which last
year did the household survey and
produced the promotion placemats
for Brussels, Deb Seili and Chris Ten
Pas feel this is a very positive busi-
ness step for our new municipality —
good work folks.
The high levels of snow have pro-
duced some good stories — one from
my uncle and aunt in Bayfield, Don
and Vi Jenkins. On checking the
view on their patio Sunday morning
they discovered a big, fat raccoon
had taken position on top of their
ladder and was viewing the kitchen
from a new vantage point as if to say
'Any chance of coming in? It's pret-
ty deep out here'.
Ah, the wonders of nature.
Happy Epiphany.
Bye now, Betty G. W.
At the Branch
By Jo-Ann McDonald
A belated Happy New Year to
everyone.
The Branch celebrated the new
year with a New Year's Eve dance.
About 70 revelers ushered in 2001.
A New Year's Day Levee saw about
60 sign the guest book and enjoy the
displays and light lunch.
The Christmas season was enjoyed
by all at the Branch who attended for
the Christmas draws.
Now that it is the new year, if you
haven't paid your 2001 dues —
you're late. Try and get in as soon as
possible please.
At our last general meeting, zone
Commander Eric Ross and Deputy
Zone Commander Bob Gray were
there for their annual inspection. Our
Branch was thanked for our partici-
pation in entertaining at Parkwood
Hospital and for parading at the
PlOwing Match and for the sale of
lottery tickets for Command.
We were given a registry of all
Branches in Canada with address
and phone numbers as a gift from
Zone Command. Information on
Dominion Track and Field to be
hosted by our District in 2003 was
received as well as info on the mem-
ory project, licence plates, access to
History Part 2 and District conven-
tion.
Commander Ross was thanked by
our Branch for his efforts in getting
tax relief for all Branches in our
Huron County area.
The concern about lack of atten-
dance by members was addressed.
Why did we join the Legion? An
obligation to our veteran parents or
grandparents. Our friends wanted us
to.
What do we want the Legion to do
for us? Or what can we do for the
Legion? With uninterested or unin-
volved members how can we sur-
vive? How do we get them to
become involved?
As members you all have a say but
you must come to the general meet-
ings on the fourth Monday of the
month, Jan. 22. Let's think about
becoming more involved.
Friday night suppers are back. Last
week ham and scalloped potatoes
were enjoyed. Meat loaf is on the
menu this week. Remember anyone
can dine.
Saturday the curling team went to
Fergus for District Competition.
Rick and Jo-Ann McDonald, Dave
and Brenda Linton soon found out
they were up against some excellent
and outstanding competitors. They
had a good day but that's all folks.
Saturday afternoon euchre had 10
tables of avid and tired of being at
home euchre players. First place was
a tie between Lloyd and Lillian
Appleby and John and Iola Subject
with 77 points. Third place went to
Joan Wissler and Donna Blough.
Lone hand winners were Lois
Chamney and Ed Stewart.
The next euchre is in two weeks.
The Brussels PeeWee Hockey
team came to the Branch for a social
time after their game before
Christmas. They enjoyed playing
pool and darts and the parents
brought snack foods as well. They
thanked the Branch for their support
in sponsoring the team at the
Lucknow tournament and for the
upcoming Young Canada tourna-
ment in Goderich,,..as well as for
sponsoring some new team jerseys.
The Provincial Service Officer
Randy Groundwater is visiting the
Branch on Feb. 7. Anyone wanting
an appointment 'should call -Ross
Bennett, 887-9069, or Mabel
Glanville 887-9086 after 4 p.m. by
Jan. 17. If you have a veteran in the
family and you have concerns about
what is available for him call
Comrade Bennett and he can advise
you or set up an appointment for
you.
Men's stag euchre is starting
Wednesday nignts so let's see some
men out.
Thursday night darts are going
strong with a great bunch attending.
Now that Christmas is over maybe
you need a night out for some fun.
