Take time to sit down with them and explain what you are going through." Dr. Frank Silver of the Heart and Stroke Foundation says, "When someone has a stroke, it can affect their family as well. It is natural to be frustrated. Explain to everyone how you are feeling, and they should be understanding. If you find you are continually depressed and frustrated, talk to your family doctor. You could find that coun- selling, or perhaps a prescription medication, might be of help." Dear Mr. Kennedy, You sound like a really nice guy to me because you are so con- cerned about your family. Sure, the months of rehab after a stroke can be frustrating and tiring. I know I was short with my nearest and dearest a few times! I'll never forget the advice I got. My doctor said, "Look, Walter, your family is TO LEARN MORE ABOUT STROKE: Heart & Stroke Information Line 1-888-HSF-INFO (1-888-473-4636), or log on to www. heartandstrokeca HEART AND STROKE FOUNDATION OF ONTARIO About six months ago I had a stroke. I still have some dif- ficulties with my right arm and hand but my doctor says I'm doing fine and the good folk at the rehab centre say I'm making real progress. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JANUARY 4, 2001. N. Huron discusses committee composition Continued from page 3 -mated with Turnberry, prompting Howson to note that it "could be the stepping- stone to the next round of amalgamation." Including Morris-Turnberry on the economic development committee was "workable", said Taylor. Howson recommended that a letter be sent • to Morris-Turnberry recommending they be part of the committee. Howick will be invited as well. In relaying the concerns of a Blyth group, regarding the closing of many main street businesses, Stewart asked that the committee give this consideration. Layton added that it would be good to have a representative from each North Huron ward on the committee. Regarding the Wingham hospital board, Taylor explained that a letter must be sent informing them of who council's representative is. This would then be approved. Layton asked that a "strong" letter be sent stating council wants an. elected representative on the board. With regards to the Blyth Memorial Hall board, there was some question as to whether council representation was necessary. However, it was agreed that the Hall would be best served by an advisory board rather than a policy-setting board and an elected representative could best get this started. On the Blyth • Greenway committee, Howson asked that former councillor Doug Scrimgeour remain as the representative. "This is an excellent volunteer board. (Doug) has a keen interest in it and I would like to see him continue." Asked what should be the next step with regards to a North Huron Wescast Community Complex, Director of Recreation and Facilities Dan Cousins told council to "look at the entire picture." Pointing out that there was a board for each of the arenas, Cousins suggested the formation- of an advisory committee Snowinobilers receive ice warning The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs has issued an ice caution advisory to warn snowmobilers and anglers that no ice should be considered safe at this time of year. Despite cold weather, wide fluctuations in air and water temperature during freeze-up result in unpredictable structural weakness and variations in ice thickness. There is no reliable way to verify ice safety during freeze up, so to avoid serious injury or death, stay off the ice. Would it not be more prudent to pull some of these together?" Councillor Murray Nesbitt, however, said the difficulty right now is that so many of the boards are shared with other municipalities. Agreeing that Cousins suggestion made sense, Layton added that one of the challenges will be in making people see there are going to have to be changes made in the future. While there are still civilian appointments to be made, council appointees to the boards are: North Huron Police Service board, Layton, Councillor Jim Campbell; Wingham Area Fire board, MacGowan, Councillor Murray Scott; Blyth District Fire Area board, Howson, Campbell; Blyth and District Community Centre board, Nesbitt; Belgrave Community Centre board, Scott; Maitland Valley Conservation Authority, Campbell; planning advisory committee and committee of adjustment, all of council; Wingham Municipal Airport Commission, MacGowan: Wingham It was a busy season for the Huron County police, stopping more than 6,830 vehicles during the five-week annual RIDE program. Sr. Const. Don Shropshall said numbers were down from last year though 68 charges or suspensions were levied.
