The Saugeen-Maitland
Bantam AA Ladies travelled
to the Mississasuga tourna-
ment on Dec. 26 - 28 to finish
out the first half of this sea-
son.
Saugeen came out slow
against Willowdale- in game
one, going down to a 4-0 loss.
The girls couldn't get any-
thing going and were out-shot
24-12 in the game. Brook
Wheeler made some quality
saves to keep the score from
climbing even higher.
A more determined team
took to the ice against
Etobicoke the next day and
after a scoreless first period,
Brittany Roberts put the puck
in the net on a power-play
from Heather Walker and
Krista Cameron to end the
second period. Terri Allen
was tested many times; partic-
ularly in the third as the
Lightning were short-handed
six out of 10 minutes of the
period.
Etobicoke finally pounded
one past Allen to tie the game
with 23 seconds remaining.
On the face-off from centre,
Jocelyn Carter fed the puck to
Cameron who drove it
towards the goal and Walker
poked the rebound in with just
six seconds left on the clock
to pull the win out of the heat
in front of the stunned
Etobicoke team.
The next game for Saugeen
against Burlington would be a
long shot to move on in the
tournament. As one of six
teams vying for the wild card
position, the Lightning need-
ed to win by 11 goals. Walker
opened the scoring on a pass
,from Amanda Hill for the
only goal in the period and the
Lightning went up by two
early in the second on a slap
shot by Hill from the point
with assists to Walker and
Katie Whytock.
Allen came up big in the
first period and a half stop-
ping Burlington three times
on breakaways. Wheeler
stepped in for the remainder
of the game and played solidi-
ly only allowing the puck to
get past her once. The girls
clicked three times in the third
period to win 5-1 but not a big
enough score to go on for the
wildcard.
Scoring in the third were,.
Jessica Mann from Cameron,
Walker from Whytock and
Carter and Cameron from
Walker. Although not reward-
ed by points but skating their
hearts out and contributing in
big ways were Crystal
Ferguson, Brittany
Kellington, Bridget Sheddon,
Candice Roberts and Jackie
Zacher.

Saturday, Dec. 30 the
Brussels/ Belgrave Bantam
Ladies welcomed Lambeth to
town.
Michelle Cook started
things for the
Brussels/Belgrave squad.
With Ashley Ritchie acting as
the decoy, Cook fired a wrist
shot to the top corner of the
net to beat the Lambeth net-
minder. The assist went to
Rachel Elliott. Two minutes
later Cook bulged the twine
for the second time sneaking a
shot by the short side of the
goalie. Assists went to Elliott
and Ritchie.
Jenn Hopf put the home
squad up by three on a wrap
picked up a loose puck left by
Levi Cook and blasted a drive
that the Drayton goalie
stopped, but Darcey Cook
picked up the rebound and
slammed in it in the cage.
Drayton restored the two-
goal margin, scoring in the
third period. The Bulldogs
Kyle Nixon narrowed the gap
for Blyth again taking a feed
from Albrechtas and one tim-
ing it by the Drayton netmin-
der. Drayton responded again
scoring with 4:53 to go. The
Bulldogs' Brett Bean blasted a
shot by the Drayton goalie
that was so quickly the referee
failed to see it go in and so the
score remained 4-2.
Blyth pulled the goalie in an
effort to draw even but were
unable to score.
Jeff (The Cat) Elliott had an
outstanding game in the
Bulldog net stopping several
around shot that beat a sur-
prised Lambeth goaltender.
This was set up by Cook and
Nicole White. Kerri Meier
completed the scoring in the
first notching a goal on a shot
from the right face-off circle
deep in the Lambeth zone.
Kristen Palmer won the draw
and fired the puck to Meier
who buried it behind the
Lambeth goaltender.
The Brussels/Belgrave team
held a 4-0 lead into the_ sec-
ond. Ritchie fired a hard wrist
-shot off the draw, won by
Cook, to get the only marker
of the second period with 5:02
left.
Meier collected the final
scoring chances by the
Drayton squad.
Saturday, Dec. 30 the
Bulldogs travelled to Mitchell
for a regular season match up.
The squad struck first with
Austin sending a pass to Cook
in front of the Mitchell goal.
Cook .slapped it in the cage.
Mitchell however tied it up
before the first period, ended.
Mitchell jumped into the
lead at 10:50 of the second
frame beating Elliott in the
Blyth net. Austin tied it up on
a great pass from Justin
Dobie. Mitchell gained that
one back bulging the twine
once again. They then padded
the lead notching another one
at the 4:59 mark.
Austin closed the gap to one
on a scramble in front of the
Mitchell goal with 22 seconds
left. Assists went to Cook and
