The new trail would lead from
the Seaforth Golf and Country

Coleman Street. From there, it was
suggested riders could use portions
of Coleman, Chalk, Victoria or
Gouinlock Streets to get to food
and gas on Goderich Street.

Lightning strikes twice
The ban on snowmobiles in
Seaforth lasted only a few days as
council retreated from its decision
at the Dec. 8 session.
The town hall was filled with
snowmobiling enthusiasts, ready
with petitions and letters to back
their proposal for a new official
trail in and out of town.
Council advised the clerk/admin
istrator to stop-working on the con-
troversial banning bylaw until
council had more time to consider
the new proposal.
Snowmobilers have said they
will mark, maintain and assist with
policing of the trail. "
The Saugeen Maitland Lightning
PeeWees were away for a match
with the Sarnia Starfires on
Saturday, Dec. 19.
Midway through the first,
Lightning Katie Whytock opened
the scoring when she pounced on
the rebound of a shot by Carleigh
Weiler.
Early in the next period, on a
pass by Rachel Elliott, Heather
Walker flicked the puck past the
goalie as she drove to the net using
her winger as a decoy to draw the
defence. The noose tightened when
a pass from behind the net by
Walker deflected off the Sarnia
defence's skate to give the
Lightning a three-goal lead halfway
into the third period.

Shedden and Candice Robertson,
Jessica Mann and Jackie Zacher,

kept the Sarnia scoring chances to a
minimum with only one scary
moment when they got caught on a
line change leaving Brook Wheeler
to stop the breakaway and retain
her shutout.
Offensive hustle and executed
passing as well as a good team
effort by the Lightning kept the
Sarnia team off balance most of the
game.
In Walkerton the next day, the
girls met Tk's Deli and Pizzeria
Bantam Team.
First period action saw both
teams with a few chances but ended
with no scoring. Five minutes into
the second period, Zacher
intercepted a clearing pass at the
blue line and threaded a slap shot
through a bunch of legs into the
back of the net. Walker slipped in
the rebound of a point shot by
Jessica Mann to take a little heat
off the Lightning midway through
the third period.
Wheeler turned away 11 shots to
earn her second shutout in a row as
the Lightning won 2-0.
