Lightning strikes twice The ban on snowmobiles in Seaforth lasted only a few days as council retreated from its decision at the Dec. 8 session. The town hall was filled with snowmobiling enthusiasts, ready with petitions and letters to back their proposal for a new official trail in and out of town. Council advised the clerk/admin istrator to stop-working on the con- troversial banning bylaw until council had more time to consider the new proposal. Snowmobilers have said they will mark, maintain and assist with policing of the trail. " The Saugeen Maitland Lightning PeeWees were away for a match with the Sarnia Starfires on Saturday, Dec. 19. Midway through the first, Lightning Katie Whytock opened the scoring when she pounced on the rebound of a shot by Carleigh Weiler. Early in the next period, on a pass by Rachel Elliott, Heather Walker flicked the puck past the goalie as she drove to the net using her winger as a decoy to draw the defence. The noose tightened when a pass from behind the net by Walker deflected off the Sarnia defence's skate to give the Lightning a three-goal lead halfway into the third period. The defence teams of Bridge Shedden and Candice Robertson, Jessica Mann and Jackie Zacher, Curling results Winners of the November/December draw in mixed curling in Brussels are: first, Brad Speiran, Madelene Steiss, John Vanass with 45 points; second, Steve Steiss, Janette Rennick, Bob Alexander,Graig Sibert with 44.5 points; third, Ernie Lewington, Velma Locking, Tom Warwick with 43 points. Offensive hustle and executed passing as well as a good team effort by the Lightning kept the Sarnia team off balance most of the game. In Walkerton the next day, the girls met Tk's Deli and Pizzeria Bantam Team. First period action saw both teams with a few chances but ended with no scoring. Five minutes into the second period, Zacher intercepted a clearing pass at the blue line and threaded a slap shot through a bunch of legs into the back of the net. Walker slipped in the rebound of a point shot by Jessica Mann to take a little heat off the Lightning midway through the third period. Wheeler turned away 11 shots to earn her second shutout in a row as the Lightning won 2-0.
