Maitland Edgar said the blessing. After the dinner the children gathered on the platform. Brenda Edgar played the piano and Christmas carols were sung until Santa arrived to hand out the presents. The seniors bowling scores for Wednesday, Dec. 16 were: Jean Walker, 139, 157; Ivy Cloakey, 141, 136; Largaret McInnes, 201, 158; Doris Remington, 143, 284; Doris Walden, 62, 72; Evelyn Caslick, 111, 131; Eleanor Neill, 109, 108; Helen Underwood, 103, 120; George Michie, 142, 121; Raymond Neill, 137, 112; Doris Michie, 144, 152; Louise Boman, 1$18, 130; Evelyn Galbraith, 159, The WI members anu many guests enjoyed a turkey dinner in the hall served by the UCW for their Christmas meeting. Dorothy Coultes led in singing Christmas carols and Ruth Olson gave a reading. Rev. John Roberts, accompanied by his wife Kay, sang Q Holy Night. Christmas floral arrangements were given as door prizes by President, Wilma Higgins. The Avon Maitland District School Board trustees elected a new chair at the Dec. 8 meeting. Wendy Anderson, representative for Perth East will assume the role from outgoing Chair Abby Arm- strong of Huron Central. Anderson thanked Armstrong for the "many hours put in" and bear- ing the brunt of the difficult year just past. The focus of the board can now turn to "ensuring better education for children", said Anderson, instead of amalgamation. Anderson also told trustees she will only be a member of the board for one more year. Bob Allen, trustee for Huron South, was elected vice-chair. Relatives were from Aylmer, Petrolia, Tavistock, Holmesville, Goderich, London, Atwood, Lucknow, Blyth, Wingham and Belgrave. Jack and Edith Walker of Goderich visited recently with their uncle and aunt, Lewis and Helen Stonehouse. Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Makas and Alicia of London spent last weekend with Mabel Wheeler. 113. There were five tables of euchre in play at the Women's Institute Hall on Wednesday, Dec. 16. Winners were: high lady, Louise Bosman; second high lady, Olive Bolt; lone hands, Aileen Leddy; low lady, Doris Michie; high man, Jack Taylor; second high man, Laura Johnston; lone hands, Lloyd Appleby; low man, Gordon Bosman. The guest speaker was Alan Scott, former ag rep of Perth County who showed slides of his recent trip to Russia and the Ukraine. He spoke of the influence that communism had on the lives of the people and of the poverty in much of the area. He visited many farms and spoke with farm leaders who are trying to improve the working conditions and the livestock. Nixons greet at Knox Steve, Patti, Michelle and Kyle Nixon welcomed worshippers and handed out the service of worship at Knox United Church on Sunday, Dec. 20 the fourth Sunday of Advent. Shawn Cottrill and Rev. Mary Jane Hobden lit the advent candles followed by the singing Hope Is a Star. The junior choir sang Christmas Is a Time and several Christmas carols, accompanied by Joanne Robinson at the piano and Lila Procter directing. Lila Procter played the guitar and Joanne Robinson accompanied on the piano with the children singing Rum a Turn Turn. Michelle Burr and Kendra Moffatt were in charge of nursery. The Old Testament reading was from Isaiah 7: 10 - 16 and the Psalm selection 80: 1-7 and 17-19 was read responsively. Rev. Mary Jane Hobden based the children's story On "What Are We Waiting For?" The Epistle lesson was from Romans 1: 1-7, with the gospel lesson from Matthew 1: 18-25. The sermon was based on "What About Joseph?" Don Procter and Shawn Cottrill took up the offering. The Christmas Eve Candlelight service at Knox United Church will begin at 7:30 p.m. Moms meet Mabel's Moms met at their regular time on Wednesday, Dec. 16. Those who. attended were Cindy McKee, Drew and Cole; Mary Jane Hobden, and Stephen; Karen Rundle and Holly; Kim Higgins, Laura and Ashley; Lila Procter and Jessica; Melanie Pletch and Amelia; Donna Raynard, Heidi and Curtis; Crystal Agombar, Zachari and Nicholas. Their topic was "Teeth and Dentistry". On behalf of the group Lila Procter presented Mabel with two potted flower arrangements. Happy Holidays until Jan. 6.
