WI meets
WI members and guests enjoyed
a delicious potluck dinner at the
Community Hall recently.
There were six fairy like angels
of various sizes on display which
members had made. Also there was
a wooden angel brought by Laura
Mae Chamney.
After dinner Christmas carols
were sung and appropriate readings
given by Maureen Beran and Janis
Vodden. There was an exchange of
gifts and Jean Plaetzer was in
charge of this.
Tina Empey is home from
Clinton Public Hospital recovering
from a severe case of pneumonia.
Auburn and Walkerburn district
received word that on Dec. 11 at
Listowel Health Science Centre
Edna Raithby passed away. Mrs.
Raithby was the wife of the late
Glen Raithby. They lived on the
farm near Auburn which was
purchased from them by Mr. and
Mrs. Carmen Gross years ago.
Left to mourn Mrs. Raithby are
her daughter Evelyn Ronson and
family, Lakefield, Jim Raithby of
London and Dr. George Raithby
and wife Cathy from Waterloo.
Mrs. Raithby was in her 91st year
and was buried at Ball's Cemetery,
Auburn on Monday, Dec. 14.
Besides the children Mrs.
Piano solos by Charlotte Worsell
and by Lisa Carter welcomed all to
the Knox United service on Dec. 20
at 10 a.m. Greeting at the door was
Elva Armstrong.
Rev. Paul Ross gave the church
announcements followed by choir
and congregation singing tht
advent chorus.
The S. Popp family and visitors
lit the Advent candle.
The first Bible reading was from
Isaiah 7. Here God told Ahaz that a
virgin would give birth and the
child wold refuse all evil. The choir
then sang an anthem.
The second Bible reading was
from Matthew 1 where God
explained to Joseph, Mary's
husband that his wife would give
birth to the Holy Ghost.
Raithby is mourned by five grand-
children and seven great-grand-
children and numerous friends in
London and in this district.
Mr. and Mrs. M. Schneider,
Alberta and his family are visiting
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.
Schneider, Auburn. On Sunday Mr.
and Mrs. Eileen Schiepel,
Teeswater and their family and Mr.
and Mrs. Ruth Woods and family,
Kitchener also came for a visit.
Ruth and Eileen are daughters of
Jim and Dorothy Schneider.
Christmas Eve service will be at
Londesboro United Church at
7:30 p.m. on Dec. 24.
The Healing Fund lunch held on
Dec. 13 at Auburn United Church
was very successful exceeding their
commitment.
Rev. Ross's sermon was on
"Loving Others". There would be
no joy or peace in this world if
there was not love.
Winners
announced
Christmas lights at Auburn were
judged. Donations in their name
were made to the Christmas
Bureau.
Winners are: first, Wayne and
Kathy Carter; second, Brenda and
Carl Farr; third, Sandy and Shirley
Andrews.
Honourable mention to Cynthia
and Rick Baechler and Carrie
Middel and Claude Daw.
