From the Minister's study Rev. speaks of positive Christianity By Rev. Cecil Wittich Blyth United Church It has been said that Christianity is full of negatives: You may not do this and you may not do that. A good example is the "Ten Commandments". Nine of the 10 are negatives. Christianity, however, is not built on the "Ten Commandments" or any other negative teachings of the Bible. Christianity is primarily a positive affirmation of life through the redeeming grace of Jesus Christ. (Luke 10:27) St. Paul, interpreting and applying the Gospel, says that love is the fulfilling of the law, meaning - the laws of God (Romans 13:10). Love, from the Christian standpoint, is a positive word of action. Love in the New Testament includes the love of God. The kind 16 at 2 p.m. with Rev. And that love has been revealed in Jesus Christ. Jesus said to his followers: "Love one another as I have loved you." (John 13:34) And the Gospel states: "We love, because he (God) first loved us." (1 John 4: 19). Our love for one another begins with God's love for us in Jesus Christ. The New Testament describes Christian love in these words: "Love is patient and kind; love rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Carrying floral tributes were Gary Caldwell, Julie Ohberholtzer, and Heather Campbell. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Melville Presbyterian Church, Wingham and District Hospital or to the charity of one's choice. Love never ends." (1 Corinthians 13: 4-8). Christianity is a positive way of life. However, it is still true that we do need the commandments of the Bible and the negatives to guide us. But we move beyond the negatives to the positive found in the love of God, and that love by which he first loved us.
