Brussels Livestock report
416 steers avg. $87 to $92, reach $97.75
Sales at Brussels Livestock for
the week ending Dec. 18 were: fed
cattle, 740; cows, 339; veal and bob
calves, 616; lambs and goats, 548;
stockers, 1,971.
Fed steers and heifers sold on a
steady market to last week. The
cows sold steady. Beef veal sold
steady with the Holstein veal
selling $1 to $2 lower. Lambs sold
steady. On Friday all weights of
stocker cattle traded steady to last
week.
There were 416 steers on offer
selling from $87 to $92 to the high
of $98. Twelve steers consigned by
Roy Schmidt, Woodstock,
averaging 1,473 lbs. sold for an
average of $90.10 with sales to
$97.75. Eleven steers consigned by
Hugh Love, Atwood, averaging
1,326 lbs. sold for an average of
$89.98 with sales to $97. Thirty
steers consigned by Cunningham
Farms, Lucan, averaging 1,469 lbs.

With holiday season complete,
farmers can get right back to busi-
ness by attending one of the many
events planned for the 33rd annual
Grey Bruce Farmers Week and
Trade Show.
To be held Jan. 6-9 at the Elm-
wood Community Centre, the four
days will be packed with the latest
information for livestock and com-
modity producers.
Jan. 6 will feature crops during
the day and swine in the evening.
The following day will be for beef,
with dairy day and horse evening
on the 8th. Jan. 9 will focus on
sheep.
The morning programs begin at 9
a.m. with the evening sessions at
6;45 p.m.
Goat day will be held Jan. 16 at
Markdale OMAFRA office at 1
p.m.
Highlights of the show include a
slide presentation of the ice storm
and talk by Suzanne Vinct, execu-
tive director of International Trade
Policy Directorate on dairy day;
horses and the law by lawyer Larry
Leifso on horse evening; nutrient
management for beef producers by
Don Hilboum, a resource manage-
ment engineer for OMAFRA; con-
tracting, nutrient management plans
and government programs for pork
