Brussels Tykes win big

Saturday morning in Brussels when they took a 4- 2 lead through the first 15 minutes.
PeeWees overtake Goderich
In their final game before
Christmas the Brussels Tykes
hosted Clinton in an exciting high
scoring contest.
Brendan Stretton opened the
scoring on a breakaway. Six
minutes later Clinton tied the score.
Ben Gowing with an assist from
Joel Wilkinson gave Brussels back
the lead. A minute later Clinton
again tied the score.
Brussels dominated the next
three minutes of the game as they
scored three quick goals. Cody
Subject made a nice deke on the
goalie to score unassisted. Thirty
seconds later Taylor Prior scored
with Robert Cronin and Stretton
drawing assists. Forty seconds later
Stretton scored his second of the
game as he knocked in a rebound.
Gowing and Subject earned assists.
This three goal outburst gave
Brussels a 5-2 lead going into the
second.
Three minutes into the second
The Brussels PeeWees enjoyed a
big win in Bayfield on Dec. 7,
whitewashing their hosts 9-0.
The onslaught began early with
Brussels bulging the twine three
times before the buzzer. Patrick
Rushton scored the first, while Joel
Hemingway notched two. Assists
went to Scott Armstrong, Rushton
and Rob McClure.
Hemingway set up Kyle Stephen-
son early in the second for goal
number four, then with just a little
over a minute remaining in the
period completed his hattrick unas-
sisted .
The team added four more in the
fourth, with Hemingway scoring
one and assisting on two, one -by
Evan Horst and the other by Bran-
don Blake. Johnathon Engel assist-
ed on the Hemingway goal.
Rushton who got things started,
also scored the final goal of the
game. Sean Hoegy got the assist.
It was a much closer game in
Hensall Dec. 13, with the hosts
edging Brussels 2-1. Tyler Camp-
bell gave his team the lead in the
second. But Hensall tied it before
the buzzer then tagged on one in
period Subject scored another
breakaway goal. Clinton quickly
got back in the game as they scored
two goals in less than a minute to
cut the lead to 6 - 4. Evan
Ducharme scored two unassisted
goals in the final two minutes of
the period to give Brussels an 8 - 4
lead after two.
Five minutes into the third
Ducharme completed his hattrick
with assists going to Gowing and
Wilkinson. Three minutes later
Brock Spencer scored his fourth of
the game for Clinton to complete
the scoring.
Even though Clinton scored five
goals, Ryan Smith made several
good saves in net for Brussels.
With this 9-5 victory the Tykes
upped their record to 6-2-1 at the
Christmas break.
With no league games scheduled
until Jan. 9 the Tykes will
participate in the annual Zurich
tournament on Monday, Dec. 28.

Dec. 14 the team travelled to
Monkton and whitewashed their
hosts 6-0.
Campbell, Stephenson and Hem-
ingway each scored two. Assists
went to Evan Horst, Blake, Devon
Blake, Hemingway with two,
Engel, Rob Semple, Stephenson
and McClure.
PeeWees win
Built on the strong play by Andy
Toll and Micah Loder, Blyth Pee-
Wees took a victory from Mitchell,
Dec. 16.
The visitors scored in the first
though a solo effort from Toll
evened the tally by the 11:31 mark
in the second.
Mitchell edged ahead before the
end of the period.
Blyth tied the game at two at
10:46 of the third when Loder went
in alone.
Toll, with Loder assisting, put the
hometowners on top to finish the
scoring at 7:26.
It was a big win for Blyth Pee-
Wee local league when Goderich
CTC came to town, Dec. 17.
The PeeWees started out slowly
with Cody Anderson and Mike
Bean scoring in the first, while the
team allowed Goderich two of their
own.
The second period was all Blyth's
as they shut out the visitors while
lighting the red light three times.
Scoring were Neil Salverda, Brett
Atom Reps
suffer loss
The Brussels Atom Rep team
suffered a loss at home on Dec. 18
against Clinton.
A close game for the first two
periods, goalie Jeff Elliott made
many great saves, but his team just
couldn't manage to get shots on
goal. Clinton scored three goals in
the last seven minutes for a 5-2 fin-
ish.
Darcey Cook scored both Brus-
sels markers with assists from
Tyler Jutzi on the first and Steven
Ropp and Mitch Blake on the sec-
ond.
Bean and Taylor Hesselwood.
Assists went to Tyler Kernighan,
Nathan Witherspoon, Cody Ander-
son with two and Darren Austin.
Goderich started off the third
period, but were answered back
quickly by Mike Bean who scored
unassisted. Lee Prescott and
Kernighan added to the tally with
assists to Kernighan, Mike Bean
with two and Neil Salverda.
The final score was 8-3 for Blyth.
