A Note from Betty The excitement is palpable — this is certainly the finest time of the year. Smiles are ready, songs come out easily and the love for each other is obvious. Each of you will have a story of the season usually involving a child for they are the only ones who go on straight instinct when it comes to fun. Enjoy the innocence and share the love of the season. By the cars in the village, many family Christmas gatherings were held over the weekend and if it was like mine — lots of good food, laughs, memories and plans for the future. Thanks Bev for stretching my cutlery into 22. It's good for everyone to have their own fork. The Optimist Club and the folks at The Ark were pleased that so many of you came on Sunday evening to enjoy the lights and the carols. Thanks to Mary Lou Crosby and the kids for the great big chocolate chip cookies and mulled cider, just right after the nippy ride through town on the wagons. The Optimist Club was there in full force with the festive wagons, all clean, decorated with lights and bales to sit on, a great tradition for the season — thank you! We're into the detail week of Advent. Are we really ready? Do we have all the things that we need to celebrate Christmas? Christmas really starts Dec. 25 and goes for 12 days, just like that awful song says. So enjoy the anticipation, well sprinkled with the love that started in the barn in Bethlehem. The Boyntons of Tory Hill area of town would get the prize for most appropriate preparation — they had the CHIMNEY replaced this week! Too bad Jeanette and Dave, I think Santa had his list done before you got the bricks out. From my home to yours — May the Blessings of Christmas be yours! Betty G. The winner of this year's Best Decorated Home in Brussels is Jean Bewley. The judges said that year after year they have come back to this house, impressed by its delightful use of colour, not too much, not too little. The effect is warm and wel- coming. Honourable mention went to Bob and Laura Bridge, whose subtle, elegant decorations are effectively incorporated into the design of their home and blend with the interior decorations visible from the front picture window. Lloyd and Beryl Smith's corner Rec. Bd. seeks secretary Morris Twp. made the 1999 appointments to the Brussels, Mor- ris and Grey Community Centre Board. They are Councillor Edna McLellan, Paul Gowing and Mary Bernard. The board agreed the condenser should receive a water treatment to take lime out of the water as part of regular maintenance. Arena Manger Murray McArter said the cost would be about $50 per month. To fill the position of secretary treasurer for the board, it was agreed the person hired jointly by Grey and Hallett Twps. on a six- month contract be invited to attend the next meeting with the current secretary-treasurer.
