On Tuesday, Dec. 1 the Belgrave community celebrated the lighting of its Christmas tree in the new Belgrave Community Heritage Park. About 100 people attended as the Guiders, Brownies, Sparks and The regular meeting of the Belgrave Evening Unit to the Knox United Church Belgrave, met at the home of Muriel Coultes, Dec 1, with 13 members and six visitors answering the roll call by bringing articles for the Christmas bureau. Barbara Anderson read a poem Jean Pattison and Margaret Higgins welcomed worshippers and handed out the service of worship at Knox United Church on Sunday, Nov. 22. The Junior choir sang I will Enter His Name and Oh I Want to Go, accompanied by Joanne Robinson and directed by Lila Procter. The Old Testament reading was taken from Jeremiah 23:1-6 with The Presbyterian congregation of Belgrave held its annual Christmas social Nov. 29. It began with a potluck dinner in the Institute Hall, then the singing Mabel's moms met at their regular time on Wednesday, Dec., 2. Those who attended were Cindy McKee, Drew and Cole; Mary Jane Hobden and Stephen; Karen Rundle and Holly; Ken Higgins, Laura, Ashley and Jarrod Logan; Lila Procter and Jessica; Melanie Pletch and Amelia; Elane Scott and Peyton; Donna Raynard, Heidi and Curtis; Crystal Agrombar, Zachari and Nicholas. Their topic was pre-natal and child birth care. The seniors bowling scores for Wednesday, Dec. 2 were: Doris Remington, 141, 146; Ivy Cloaky, Pathfinders lit the tree and placed red ribbons on the branches. Lorne Campbell welcomed everyone and spoke about the Remembrance service at the park. He drew attention to the memorial stones, park design and flower "Christmas Heart." A donation of $25 from the card fund will be given to gifts for the shut-ins. There will be lunch after church in February when the children sing. Mabel Wheeler presented the program in which she renewed the meaning of the Christmas story and closed with a poem about the passage from Luke 1:68-79 being read responsively by the congregation. Melanie and Tania Pletch were in charge of the nursery. Rev. Mary Jane Hobden talked to the children about celebrating the last day before the beginning of the Christian year. Garner Nicholson showed slides of local interest. Residents disposing of appliances containing a refrigerant will be charged $30 per unit. It' the refrigerant has already been removed, there is a $5 disposal fee and removal must be certified. A $5 charge will also be applied to household fixtures including appliances, water heaters, bathtubs and furnaces. Items that can be burned or recycled may be disposed of at no cost. The Belgrave Community Club held its Christmas dinner and party Friday, Dec. 4 with 67 present. President Lorne Campbell welcomed everyone. The group observed a moment of silence in memory of Audry Edgar. Rev. Cathrine Campbell led in grace. Debbie Reid and her helpers served a delicious beef diner. Lorne Campbell expressed thanks. They were reminded of the New Year's Eve party being held at the WI Hall, Dec. 31. at 8 p.m. Mabel Wheeler conducted a mixer contest. George Michie'read his account of the Marathon Euchre Club which started in 1949. Arnie Bruce and Alf Nichol favoured the group with some Christmas numbers. Four table centres were given as draw prizes - Mary Procter, Cathrine Campbell, Mary Jane Hobden and Olive Bolt won. Further draw prizes were won by Laura Johnston, Lillian Appleby, Les Shaw, John Robers, Donna Shaw, Irene Lamont, George Inglis, Jean Pattison, Louise Bosman, Ross Procter, Edythe Coultes, John Anderson, Kay Roberts, Bob Gordon, Richard Moore, Ruth Gordon and Alf Nichol.
